I always figured Bruins players could do whatever they wanted to without league retribution because Colin Campbell was NHL head sheriff (and his son, of course, plays for the Bruins). I thought that might stop this year with a new head disciplinarian. But, Shanny has continued to turn a blind eye to the Bruin's on-ice thuggery.
In a philosophical sense, I think the league needs to figure out whether they want a bunch of 6'4 240 lb. guys thugging it up and clogging up shooting lanes in 2-1 or 1-0 games, or whether they want to reward speed, creativity, and skill. I'm sure opinions will differ on the matter, but it seems to me that we're right back where we were pre-2005.
