  1. It was a steal for the Preds to get Filip Forsberg for him last year.
  2. The organizational depth is there given all the draft picks over the past couple of years. Plus we have a ton more picks the next couple of years. It's just painful to have to wait 3-4 more years before most of these guys are ready to contribute at the NHL level.
  3. Did it involve boys and girls instead of defensemen and forwards? :D
  4. Per twitter, Nolan reportedly busted out the 4 corners drill at practice today... I didn't know what that was, so I looked it up...
  5. Scott - McCormick - Tropp ...ain't no way that line scores a goal!
  6. My take from this (and from remembering back to the Nolan days of the mid-90's) is he wants his checking line to be a checking line (i.e. none of this mixing scorers with checkers stuff), and he sees that young guys like Grigo and Z aren't ready for prime time yet. He put his three best scorers at each position on the top line... for good or bad, when you look at who we have at RW, the only one with any history of scoring in this league is Stafford. I kind of like the Ott - Ennis - Girgs line. Not sure what to make of Leino - Foligno - Flynn.
  7. Looks like Kadri is likely to miss the upcoming home-and-home with the Sabres. Two cheap shots in the same game.
  8. I don't like Sacco from his days in Denver. Rammer might be a nice fit here in place of Sacco. This is why I'm a big fan of The Hoff... Christian Ehrhoff ‏@TheRealHoff101h People keep asking me today "So you have a new boss?" No, I'm still with my wife.
  9. I actually wouldn't mind Drew as a $2 million per year veteran third/fourth line guy. He has some size, can carry the puck a bit, can check, can fight once in a while. But he isn't a scoring line guy and shouldn't be paid as such. At $4 million per his contract is dreadful. Just another example of Darcy placing his bets on the wrong horses.
  10. Yeah, his statement was something that many of us agree with... He said players that young don't learn by losing every night. Makes sense to me. Better they develop elsewhere until they're ready to play an "NHL-level game" on a nightly basis. I'd send Risto to Rochester, Z back to London, and maybe Girgs back to Rochester in favor of one of the older guys. Grigo is a tough case. No way in hell he should have been kept with the Sabres last year. Now he is sort of stuck up here it seems. Can't be sent to Rochester, which is where he really belongs.
  11. He's back... and he's hornier than ever! B-)
  12. Great ex-Sabre twitter exchange... Jay McKee ‏@JayMcKee74 1h What to expect with Ted Nolan running the ship. If you work real hard, you'll love him. If you don't work hard - you will be very soon! Reply post... Matthew Barnaby ‏@MattBarnaby3636 1h Or u will be gone!!! Plain and simple!! @JayMcKee74
  13. I think guys like Grigorenko and Leino don't really fit what Nolan wants to do, which I'm guessing is a team 'crashers and bangers' and all-out effort guys. I don't think this team has had any sort of identity under Rolston... I'm glad Nolan will (hopefully) bring one. It is high time we establish what sort of team we want to be.
  14. Mike Harrington ‏@BNHarrington1h Nolan also said he WILL entertain the idea of bringing Patrick Kaleta back. #Sabres ...if ever there was a Ted Nolan type player, it is Patrick Kaleta. I hope he thumbs his nose at the league and brings Patty K. back up to the big club.
  15. All about Ted Nolan? Now I hear tell that Ted Nolan was born in Bangor, Maine. It took five giant storks to deliver Ted to his parents. His first bed was a lumber wagon pulled by a team of horses. His father had to drive the wagon up to the top of Maine and back whenever he wanted to rock the baby to sleep... ;)
  16. It feels like Christmas around here this morning!
  17. It is pretty obvious that LaFontaine didn't think too highly of Ron Rolston's coaching. Replaced him immediately.
  18. I'm trying to remember back to how we played under Nolan and I recall a much heavier forecheck back in those days. Does that sound about right to anyone?
  19. My buddy John Wawrow looks like he just rolled out of bed...
  20. Whether it works out or not, the point is Terry made a necessary change. Pat and Ted may not be the answer, but Darcy and Ronny clearly weren't.
  21. No doubt. Many of those "great" trades involved trading away all of the centers off of the roster!
