  1. Well if the argument against Ryan is he "lacks intensity" then the same argument clearly applies to Pommer. He's not exactly going to go flying into the corners with reckless abandon... he's not the kind of guy who ends a game with a tooth missing or a black eye... I can see that I'm clearly in the minority on this board in that I just don't think Pommer is nearly as good as others around here think he is. He puts up scoring numbers, yes. But IMHO he is the equivalent of an NBA spot up shooter. He doesn't create his own opportunities and without time and space he isn't very effective. And, if you want to play a hard forechecking game and want fowards who consistently win puck battles in the corners... that... ain't... Pommer.
  2. Quick has been bad this year (.905 SV%), and I just watched Howard single-handed lose a game to the Preds the other night. His numbers are bad too. Bishop and Miller are clearly the two best American goaltenders so far this season. ...the must have put a lot of weight of past success and less weight on this year's numbers.
  3. I'd take Erik Johnson (Col) over Orpik. Johnson is a better skater, much better offensively, and is having a really good year. And, if they wanted a big hitter on the back end then why not Byfuglien?
  4. Seth Jones can grab one of the defense spots in 4 years too. Kid is going to be special.
  5. I'd like to see us make room for these two to stay up permanently.
  6. There are quite a few very good forwards for USA Hockey to choose from. I think they either wanted physical two-way players (e.g. Brown, Backes) or elite scorers (e.g. Kane, Kessel) and a guy like Pommer ends up as a bit of a "tweener." Derek Stephan surprises me a bit, but I don't watch a lot of Rangers games so maybe he is better than I think he is. A guy like Okposo (tied for 12th in scoring) or Bobby Ryan might have a gripe. With the bigger ice surface they definitely need mobile guys, hence some of the d-men choices perhaps?
  7. I really like the forwards for Team USA. Not loving the defensemen quite as much as the forwards. Solid team overall.
  8. The Minnesota Wild are in free fall mode. Lost 6 straight and 8 of 10 and have dropped to 10th in the West. It is relevant because we own their 2nd round pick this year, so I'm hoping they keep sucking so that we get a slightly better draft pick from them!
  9. Yeah, I mean you gotta have a couple of guys on the roster who can put the puck in the net. And, you need a few veterans to round out an otherwise young team. I'd be happy if they retained MattyMo and Otter to provide some veteran leadership up front.
  10. MattyMo has the same number of points on the year as Vanek (admittedly in one more game played)... and even if he is a rental, I love MattyMo's positive attitude relative to the ever-sulking Vanek. I was/am an unabashed Darcy hater, but he did a great job with the Vanek for MattyMo and a 1st trade.
  11. I'm still mad we drafted Pierre Turgeon #1 overall in 1987 instead of Brendan Shanahan. ;)
  12. Saw this posted on another sports-related website that I frequent: "Dude what the hell did you expect? We all said this team would be lucky to win 10 games this year.. the cubbert is bare.. this a huge rebuilding job at the moment."
  13. Nice. I'm a connoisseur of Polish metal bands. Aside from the obvious (Decapitated, Vader, Behemoth, etc.), I like KAT a lot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugEIcDlU044
  14. ...hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny ###### Kaye!
  15. Linus is friends with Jhonas, I think. On another note, I guess this was Pat LaFontaine's first NHL trade!
  16. A 6th round pick is almost valueless these days. Why not take a look at Linus? My only wish is that he was a RW where we're relatively weak instead of a LW. But, give him a look.
  17. ...continuous construction delays and setbacks and unexpected design changes for my new home are killing me. Build what you say you're going to build and do it in the time frame you're doing to say you're doing to do it! Hrmph.
  18. Preferences for a more or less physical game obviously will vary from person-to-person. Personally, I still think one-on-one fighting has a place in the game if both guys agree to the scrap. And, I like a physical hard-checking brand of hockey. But, anyone who has ever played the game at any level knows you don't blindside a guy at full speed when he is three feet from the boards. I doubt you'll find a single player or former player who will disagree... that just isn't a good hockey play. If he was on the boards, or maybe even at mid-ice, then I don't really have a problem with the hit.
  19. The intent of the Wilson hit was obvious. He came in full speed from beyond the blue line to hit Schenn. I bet he was trying to get back at Schenn for something that happened earlier in the game. The hit was much worse because Schenn was about 2 feet from the boards. BTW - Can we just rename this the "dirty hit" thread? There is very little discussion of the NHL - goals, saves, upset wins, who is playing well and such - in this thread... it is pretty much all about hits, fights, and suspensions. ;)
  20. During my short year and a half stint living in Rochester, we use to get plates at a place that I think was called Marks (?)... on Monroe or thereabouts?
  21. Y'all know we have more than half of the NHL season left, right? :D
  22. 15 games for Shawn Thornton of the Bruins. 5 games for James Neal. http://espn.go.com/b...-orpik-incident http://www.bostonglo...UlEP/story.html
  23. +1. I can't see any GM handing away a certain top-10 pick now (2014) for an unknown pick later (2015). This is a classic case of ambiguity aversion.
