Iron Crotch

I watched the game on delay. The Sabres have played with a lot of effort the past several games and seem to be passing the puck much better than they were earlier in the season. To me that is evidence that they're growing into the new system. IMHO, it is glaringly obvious that the problem with this team is simply a lack of top-end talent. When you compare this roster man-for-man against any of the better teams, we just don't stack up. I agree with the assessment up-thread that poor drafting has been a killer for this organization. On another note, the Isles announcers are fantastic. Really enjoyed watching the away feed for this one.

What do you guys (who have seen him play) think of CJ Smith? Could he offer anything at the NHL level?

The one team that cleaned up in that relatively weak draft is Nashville. Best drafting team in hockey. They got Kevin Fiala, Vladislav Kamenev who they flipped for Kyle Turris, Viktor Arvidsson (absolute steal in the 4th round), Jack Dougherty who would be an NHL defenseman now if the Preds weren't so loaded on D, ....

I recall being about the only one around here who favored Draisaitl back in the day. I backed down because everyone around here was enamored with Samson's "hockey IQ"... which at the NHL level seems to translate to "not physical, not fast, doesn't score." :P (it was a weak draft overall)

Obviously Jack had a great game. But, we're a one line team (Jack + Evander + whomever you put next to them). That's too easy to defend in this league.
