"Increasingly Substantiated BS" rumor thread- 2014 Edition
Iron Crotch replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
...maybe we can find a way to get every single first round pick for 2015. That way we know we'll win the draft lottery. ;) -
Pekka is back! He played a couple of games down on the farm in Milwaukee on a conditioning assignment and looked good in both (two wins). So he is back up with the Preds and may or may not start tomorrow against Pittsburgh. As for the comment above about Dubnyk. ###### NO! He is the worst goaltender I have ever seen. He was terrible in Edmonton and both of his starts in Nashville were catastrophes. He is hopeless. I think the guy we dressed after the Miller trade is probably better than Dubnyk.

The Hoff is my favorite current Sabre. *sigh* ...this may be a case of The Hoff approaching Murray and asking for a lifeboat off of the Titantic. -

I really like that line. Too bad we'll likely only get to see it for one game. -
Murray made the Miller/Ott trade on his own without Pat's blessing (I assume Murray got the okay from Pegula) and Pat felt slighted. With it clear that he had no real power to affect personnel decisions, Pat quit. Might be that simple. To me the interesting piece is what happens with Nolan. Could go either way...

Risky to trade the Hoff due to his Luongo-like contract. Plus I like the guy. But, I guess it is a fire sale... -

On twitter an hour ago is old! :P -
Yeah, 3 straight Sabres captains traded and counting... I guess Leino should get the "C!"
-
This is why I cringe a bit when we talk about trading more (current) roster players for prospects and picks. I'm all for rebuilding through the draft but having a few NHL-ready players would be nice too. Edit: I forgot that Carrier was St. Louis' 2nd round pick in 2013... so that makes 16 1st/2nd rounders from 2013 to 2015!
-
So we have a combined 10 first and second round picks over the next two drafts? Combined with the 5 we had in the 2013 draft that is 15 1st/2nd rounders over a 3 year span. Ridiculous!
-
In Nashville the consensus was that everyone knew from day 1 that Shea Weber would eventually be captain. He just had "it." It was only a matter of time... I think Zemgus might be in that category. Given age they will wait a bit, but he has "future captain" written all over him.

That's an old tweet. I like the Myers for Eberle rumors better (even though they're not from anyone informed). -

The ridiculousness of twitter... Scott makes a joke, someone takes it seriously, then 20 "reporters" say "Hoff is sitting tomorrow!" BTW - I'm in Dallas now and didn't realize the Sabres will be here tomorrow. Am scheduled to fly out during the game. Urgh. -

That our new GM Dwight Schrute seems cold and ruthless I actually see as a good thing. As long as he shows a true eye for talent then that is what matters most. Bill Polian was a bit of an SOB but he sure was good at putting a winning team together.
-
PFL turned down Pegula's original offer to be GM since he admitted that he wasn't qualified. He then hired a (presumably) qualified GM to preside over personnel moves. Why then should the unqualified guy (PLF) have veto power of personnel moves? He shouldn't. Hire the GM and let him run the team. This looks to be all about PLF not being able to handle differences in opinion over personnel decisions. And, I don't think it was just the Miller trade. I think this also has to do with the future moves that we'll read about shortly. BTW - Craig Patrick (another qualified guy) is sticking around. That speaks volumes.

This. Edit: Myers to the Flyers is one of the rumored deals.

Big Tyler is definitely better as of late. I just look at it as our organizational depth is mostly on defense and we're the lowest scoring offensive team. Big Tyler could probably get us one or two really good offensive players in return. And, we have plenty of young guys to fill the void on defense (McNabb, Pysyk, Risto, Zadorov, etc.). -
The Miller trade wouldn't have happend without buy-in from all/most involved (Pegula for sure). I would guess #2 might be a source of disagreement - specifically there could be a player or two being discussed that some don't want to move (e.g., Tyler Myers).
-
It's not that I'm not intrigued by Internet rumors. It's that there is no information at all beyond "something is up." So everyone speculates wildly but we have no real information beyond the basic "some guys are disagreeing over something."

I'm clearly in the minority on this board, but I think Myers is wildly overvalued by our fans. I would do cartwheels if he was traded with the important caveat that he brought a lot back in return.
