I'll give Murray credit in that he certainly made moves and lots of them. In that sense he seems to be the anti-Darcy. Murray seems to have a plan and he certainly isn't afraid to execute that plan... and he doesn't seem to be afraid of the "court of public opinion." I also like that he mentioned acquiring assets that can be moved at the draft. I genuinely think he wants to flip some of the picks for young pros. That is something I'd be happy about. Should be a fun draft this year!

Would love to take a run at re-signing MattyMo this summer. He isn't that old (only 30) and he does the one thing that we need most: score goals. Seems like a genuinely good guy too. Plus, we'll have to spend some serious cash just to get to the cap.

The biggest impediment to this overall strategy is the draft lottery. All we can do is maximize our % chance of winning the lottery. We can suck worse than any team in the history of hockey (which we well might) but still might not get McDavid if the ping pong balls don't fall our way.

Hard to tell, but I actually think Halak is the better goaltender. Hard to tell since one was on a strong defensive team and one on a weak defensive team.

As best as I can tell we're just eating salary for other teams. Rusty has a ~$3 million cap hit. So maybe the Caps are just trying to unload him? Since Terry's is the league's ATM we'll take his contract.

Since Pegula took over we've turned into the league's salary dump. We take on everyone else's overpaid problems and retain salary on most trades out.

Yeah, I kind of think the chance to resign Moulson is better than a mid-round pick who will almost certainly never make the roster.

Stewart is a good player. I watched him a lot when I was living out in Colorado. He has another year left on his contract. My guess is we'd get next to nothing back for Halak, so maybe keep him around and try to resign him?

I gotta give credit to Darcy for his last move as a Sabres GM... getting rid of Vanek for Moulson and a high 1st round pick was absolutely brilliant.

No leverage since everyone knows he won't resign there. The Isles might have to take a relatively weak offer.

Kesler and Leggy have no trade clauses. They won't be moved unless they say they want to go.
