As Murray mentioned in his post-deadline press conference, someone who we don't anticipate being available will become available at the draft. One or two good trades of picks for established players coupled with one or two good free agent signings could get this team better in a hurry. I'm sorry, but tanking an entire season on purpose is a loser's mentality that I'll never subscribe to. IMHO, no GM should ever go into a season trying to lose on purpose.

Based on last year's draft lottery odds, finishing dead last only gets us a 25% chance of the #1 overall pick. So there is a 3-in-4 chance tanking gets us the 2nd overall pick. This year, that should be fine since there are a few players at the top of the draft who are closely rated. We'll get one of 'em. ...But, tanking next year will not automatically get us McDavid... it only gets us a 1-in-4 shot at him (although the Isles pick could change those odds).

Sounds like both Girgs and Stewart will miss next game. Who do we call up from Rochester?
