  1. We're really skating in the first here... well, everyone but Ville. ;)
  2. Deslauriers is built like a brick shithouse. 6'0 230. That's linebacker size.
  3. There is thread after thread about tanking. It has become a broken record at this point. One horrible season (this season) is enough for me. Next year we start our triumphant climb back to respectability...
  4. Whomever did the scouting on Baptiste deserves a gold star.
  5. I think you'll find that in any sport, there isn't one way to win a championship. There are many routes to get there. For every team that has won a cup by having one superstar carry them (e.g., the #1 overall pick) there are just as many teams that have won it with a "team" of very good players, a good system, and a good coach. People are obsessed with losing on purpose around here because they think that is the only way for the team to become a Cup contender. I can't disagree more. If we get a superstar by chance next year, fine. But, losing on purpose just for a better lottery chance at a single player should never be the preseason objective.
  6. Looks like Rusty's NHL career has ended with a thud. Whatever.
  7. Capgeek has an armchair GM function that you can play around with... kind of fun, actually. I conservatively projected: Centers: CoHo, Ennis (RFA resigned), Girgs, Konopka (UFA resigned) LW: Moulson (UFA signed*), Larsson, Foligno (RFA resigned), Ellis, Scott (UFA resigned) RW: Stewart, Stafford, Flynn, Mitchell, D'Agostini (UFA resigned) D: Hoff, Myers, Weber, Pysyk, Hank (UFA resigned), McBain (RFA resigned), Rudy G: Enroth, Neuvirth So I dumped Sulzer (UFA not resigned), Leino (buyout) and Conacher (RFA not resigned). I signed one expensive free agent left winger (Moulson) and called up a couple of guys. I gave healthy raises to all of the resigned guys plus gave $7 million to Moulson. ....and it came out to slightly less than the projected cap floor ($20 million below the estimated 2014-2015 cap of $71.1 million). I would argue that we probably do need to bring in an expensive player or two in the off-season to get to the cap floor. But, my assumptions above were conservative and Murray may choose to do something much more radical this off-season! B-)
  8. I agree with sending Pysyk down to work on the offensive side of his game. He put up Weber-like offensive numbers with the big club. If he can develop just a bit more offensive game, he'll help the team all that much more. I think for next year we'll see Pysyk and Larsson up with the Sabres. Maybe Deslauriers too. All the rest of the prospects (Armia, Risto, etc.) will probably spend another year in Rochester. Good that Grigo will finally be able to join the Amerks next season. They should have a pretty good team down on the farm.
  9. As of now, we're sitting on about $34 million of projected cap space for next year. That's the lowest payroll in the league by far (as it sits today). Plus, we're likely to buy out our highest paid forward (Leino with a $4.5 million cap hit). Ennis and Foligno will get raises next year as RFAs. We'll probably re-sign Hank (UFA) as a veteran depth defenseman. But, we definitely need to spend some money on free agents or trade for some expensive vets! http://www.capgeek.c...harts_year=2014
  10. We're a weak offensive team anyway, and without Girgs, Stewart, and Foligno that sure didn't help. Glad the team gave Deslauriers his first NHL game. That was a nice move.
  11. I've seen enough of Luke Adam to know he has no future on this team.
  12. The Sabres are auctioning off game worn jerseys? Think anyone will bid on the Leino jersey? :P
