If we draft a guy: "he's going to be great, what a steal" If we sign a guy (no matter how pedestrian the signing): "great pickup" If we get rid of a guy: "he had a bad attitude, he wasn't very good any way, ..." (same on pretty much every message board for every team in every sport)

Philly is over the cap right now and still have guys to sign. Their new direction is speed, speed, and more speed in their top-6 (per a discussion on NHL radio yesterday). That's why they got rid of Hartnall. Rumor is they're shopping Vinny Lecavalier. He has 4 years left at $4.5 mil. Also, the Hawks may be trying to move Oduya and/or Patrick Sharp. Boston also needs to dump salary. ...there are deals to be made with teams that need to dump salary.

Would you prefer D'Agostini, Conacher, Scott and Konopka? :P

I think it is pretty obvious how we'll add salary. With the cap at only $69 million, several teams will need to shed a contract or two to get breathing room under the cap. We'll be the league's dumpster for shedding salary. I doubt free agent will want to sign in Buffalo, so we'll have to add salary via trades.

That we're even discussing guys like Malhotra and Jovanovski shows just how low this team has gotten... like an alcoholic who has hit rock bottom.... :(

At the end of the year when we were dressing a collection of random throw aways from other teams? After the team made it clear they wanted to tank to get the best possible pick? Any good player would have been frustrated by that. I don't blame The Hoff one bit.

The biggest problem as I see it is we were the lowest scoring team in the league by far last year and over 1/2 (53.3%) of all goals we scored were when The Hoff was on the ice (no one else was even close). He is the only defenseman we had that generated any sort of offense via breakout passes, on the power play, etc. So, I get the need to remove a terrible contract... but we better find a couple of overpriced veterans via trade or perhaps free agency who can move the puck and hopefully teach some of the young kids. Someone like Brian Campbell might fit the bill if Florida wants to unload his contract. Del Zotto of the Preds is on the block. Others?

Gotta agree with this. In any sport I think it is fantastically stupid to grade a draft right after it happens. We'll know the true draft grades in 4 or 5 years. Every fan of every team is hopeful until then.

CoHo played wing at the world championships, and I'm pretty sure the plan is to leave him there (i.e. this year). I assume Ennis will move back to wing as soon as we have a better center option (may take a year or two).

Should be lot of trade activity in the coming days. With the salary cap a couple million lower than expected, and all the GMs assembled in Philadelphia right now, I think we'll have some interesting stuff to talk about in the next few days. :thumbsup:

Nashville is one of the many teams that will make a run at Statsny. Poille met with him in Denver recently. I expect Statsny to go elsewhere though.
