This guy is the very definition of a "heart and soul" player. Dives in front of shots, takes an absolute beating, team first all the way. It is pretty clear at this point that Murray wants to fill the team with character guys and let the young skill guys develop around them. Great move. I was wondering who the other veteran defensemen might be this year... guess we now know!

Stastny's parents are in St. Louis, so I think that is where he wants to be. Years might be the sticking point.

Not to play thread police, but per this week's conversation might some of these signings be new thread worthy? (e.g., Ehrhoff) ...this thread will get massive in a big hurry.

Gionta brings far more to the table than guys like D'Agostini and Conacher. Definite upgrade (although we were so pathetic last year almost any signing is an upgrade!).

...or you could immortalize Ryan Vinz...

It should be something that makes people want to change/customize their avatar immediately. This comes to mind...

Jason Spezza traded to the Dallas Stars per Garrioch the Hut.

Congrats on your newly acquired power. As first order of business, I recommend updating the default Timmy avatar to _______ (any good suggestions?)

This is one of the reasons I like Moulson: http://www.pinterest...11349057551559/

Moulson. We need guys who can put the puck in the net and that is what Moulson does.

Oops. I crapped my pants.

Prediction Time: What kind of July 1 will it be for the Sabres?

I didn't watch a ton of Flames games this past year, but from what I saw Butler is still a below average defenseman. -
It's just too many goalies, especially since the best of 'em might just turn out to be Ullmark. Someone will be out of a job by the end of the season.

I'd love to see David Legwand in a Sabres uniform, but I figure he has his sights set elsewhere. Great two-way player who brings leadership and can play in all situations. Orpik and Moulson would be nice. Gionta doesn't have much tread left on the tires, but he certainly brings leadership. I'd take him. I think we'll need one more veteran d-man as well. Anyone who still has a couple of years left in the tank and can provide veteran leadership would be fine. Sarich maybe? We can probably trade for a d-man after the cap reality sets in for a few teams and they need to dump salary. -
Good. I've been consistently anti-Conacher since I don't like tiny players who can't score. Nice kid, local guy, but glad he is gone.

It wasn't Vinny. Cheap David Poille didn't want Lecavalier's big salary on the books for the next 4 years. He tried to get the Flyers to eat some of it. ...Poille sucks.
-
MDZ was a healthy scratch down the stretch here in Nashville. The Preds are pretty loaded with offensive defensemen, so I'm not sure why Poille traded a steady, reliable guy like Kevin Klein for yet another offensive d-man in MDZ. The Rangers won that trade by a landslide.

I assume Murray is thinking of pairing the 35 year old vet and former Habs captain Gionta with rookie Rinehart. I think we'll end up with two new forwards and two new d-men when all is said and done.

Boston University kid, right?

Jeremy White @JeremyWGR Jun 27 Tyler Myers has a large group of Chara-believers left. Those folks might want to acknowledge that Tim Murray isn’t one of them. B-) -
Saw him play 1/2 a year here in Nashville. No thanks. He is basically Matt Ellis. Gives a lot of effort, but the talent just isn't there.
-
Well they didn't qualify him, so he is basically gone. Your wish is granted! I think Murray will bring in two veteran defensemen to offer leadership for the youngsters. Maybe one defensive type d-man (e.g. Orpik) and one offensive d-man (e.g. Soupy). I don't have a clue who those two might be... should be an interesting couple of days...

The Isles are pushing hard to get Matt Moulson back.

More like "lost his job to Lieuwen in Rochester." Between Enroth, Neuvirth, Lieuwen, Makarov, Ullmark, and Hackett, something has to give.
