  1. Seantrel was USA Today offensive player of the year coming out of high school and the most sought after recruit in the country. He seems to be the prototypical University of Miami player these days. Uber-talented, but partied his way through college and only took football semi-seriously... failed drug tests (pot)... off the field "issues"... out of shape... The "U"!
  2. Can't argue with you here. An older guy with some starting experience could at worst impart some wisdom on the young guys.
  3. He was a very good college QB and one of the top rated recruits in the country coming out of high school in Virginia. I watched him play in person on several occasions - I'm an ACC guy and long time Virginia Tech season ticket holder. His only bad game his senior year was against a stacked Florida defense (and it still wasn't that bad of a game). Dude has a couple of passes blocked by d-linemen in two series of work in a meaningless Hall of Fame game and guys are already on his case? Personally, I think he gets the entire season to prove himself. I think he'll have a good season, if only because the offensive line and receivers are better this year. He'll never be Brees, Brady, or Manning, but I think he has the tools to be a good NFL QB.
  4. ...if only because we don't have a first round pick this coming year courtesy of trading up for Watkins. Two series of the first meaningless preseason game and people are already making judgments about players? Tough crowd...
  5. Are you one of my former students? :) I highly recommend: http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/0809328844
  6. I think this was always the case. The bidding process is highly secretive and tightly controlled by Morgan Stanley. Morgan Stanley certainly isn't going to disclose to the press private bidding information. Likely the only way the press can know anything is if one (or more) of the bidding parties publicly discloses their bid amount... and they have no real incentive to reveal their true bidding amount in doing so...
  7. Happy 58th birthday to Real "Buddy" Cloutier.
  8. He was one of my favorite players back in the day, but as an Assistant Coach choice... meh. Not sure the logic of hiring a guy who has been away from the league for over a decade. Maybe, it is a genius move, but...
  9. The majority are Russians, but definitely some Europeans and Canadians (and Americans) over there. Almost 40% of current players are non-Russians. Sort of interesting: http://www.quanthock...reer-stats.html Rebels blew up Donbass Donetsk's arena. Oof.
  10. The political situation in Russia and Ukraine will have a very definite impact on the operation of the KHL and the hockey labor force. The one Ukrainian team in the league (Donbass Donetsk) will not play this coming season. Ukrainian players may be reluctant to sign with Russian-based teams. And, if the rest of the world imposes heavy economic sanctions on Russia, which will almost surely be the case, that should also negatively impact the league. In the short-term, I just don't see many top players lining up to jump to the KHL, especially non-Russian players. Thoughts? Recent Toronto Star article: http://www.thestar.c...in_ukraine.html
  11. Anyone remember Patrick Cote? http://www.tennessea...eries/13206901/
  12. The mistake by the LA Galaxy defender that gave Wayne Rooney a layup of a goal (to make it 3-0) was like watching little league soccer. Horrible. ...and watching MLS teams get blasted by top teams from top leagues make me even more annoyed that USA national team guys are increasingly turning down offers from top leagues to stay in the MLS. Zusi and Besler both re-signed in Kansas City because it is comfortable. But, they're turning down the opportunity to get better against better competition. I don't like the mentality of not wanting to play against the best in the world when you have the opportunity to do so.
  13. $12 million total across the two years (per twatter).
  14. Been saying for weeks now we'd sign one more affordable veteran defenseman. Guess Benoit is the guy. No way we'd go into the season with three rookies in the top-7 (Pysyk, Rudy, Risto). This adds one more veteran so we can have any two of Pysyk, Rudy, and Risto with the big club and the other in Rochester. The move makes a ton of sense.
  15. For a minute there, I though that said "Kyle Dumbass."
  16. This pretty much sums up why I expect the Bills to suck yet again this year: http://en.wikipedia....season_droughts
  17. Willman could only do 4 reps at 135. That's really bad, even for an 18 year old. Shouldn't be too tough for this kid to add 10-15 lbs. of muscle as he gets a few years older though.
  18. Pretty much confirms just how awful our lineup was last season. There hasn't exactly been a rush by other NHL clubs to sign our cast-offs. Lee Stempniak to the Rangers 1 year at only $900k. Very nice signing by the Rangers given the salary.
  19. I'm going to the annual Music City Brewer's Festival tomorrow here in Nashville (http://www.musiccity.../breweries.html). I go to a lot of these festivals and most have more-or-less the same brewers. But, hopefully there will be some new offerings that I haven't tried before. ...all you can drink means all you can drink. I consider that to be a challenge!
  20. I don't mind Rudy as a depth guy for a couple of years. I think Pysyk and Risto make the Sabres this year as rookies, with Rudy and McCabe back in Rochester. We're still pretty thin on defense until McCabe and Zadorov are ready for the NHL. And, Rudy has a fair amount of NHL experience which is good in the short-term. I think we'll probably still sign a veteran seventh defenseman... 1 year cheap contract sort of thing. Hank, maybe?
  21. Reasonable deal for a guy on the upswing of his career. He should be a 20 goal, 50 point guy if he stays healthy. Maybe a little better than that if we surround him with some talent.
  22. I'm not a big fan of 5'10 180 lb. defensemen unless they have some serious skill (which Rudy doesn't).
  23. This is me too. I have a wireless ADT alarm system (no need for a phone line) and have two big loud barky dogs. Both would probably lick your face if you broke in, but burglars won't know that. I live in what is affectionately known as a "transitional" neighborhood in a high crime city. Break-ins are common. And, lately people's lawn mowers have been disappearing from their sheds. Most criminals know alarms won't trigger the police for 30-45 seconds after the break-in. As a result "smash and grab" break-ins are the most common type in my neighborhood. They'll see something they want through a window - normally electronics like a laptop computer or TV - smash their way in and grab the item and be out within 20 seconds or so. Dogs keep the "smash and grabs" from happening. An alarm system is something buyers will often look for when you go to sell the property. So, putting one in can have investment value depending on what you get. ADT is expensive, but will give you all of the equipment for free in exchange for a 3 year contract. Most home insurance companies will also give you a rate break if you have an alarm (or may even require one).
  24. The Preds have centers all over the place (Jokinen, Cullen, Wilson, Goose, Jarnkrok, Fisher (hurt), Roy, Ribero). They'll have to move a few guys to wing. BTW - Ribero played with James Neal in Dallas. That was a big reason for the Ribero signing.
