  1. Anyone else catch John Gruden on Monday night talking about how many defensive sets Mike Pettine runs? He was saying the Brown had over 60 sets already installed and would run double that during the season. No wonder our defenders didn't know where they were supposed to be at times last year.
  2. I think he's purchasing the entire city of Erie. ...He will also be announcing his new title of "Supreme Chancellor."
  3. Rookie WR sleeper: We all know about Sammy Watkins, but look for rookie WR Jordan Matthews of the Eagles to have a good year. The guy is the SECs all-time leading receiver and the Eagles have been raving about him in camp.
  4. Shaw did job #1 for a QB... he hit receivers that were open. Hoyer and Johnny Inaccurate bounced passes, threw them 5 yards behind guys, and generally looked like they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
  5. The term "marketing genius" is preposterous. Figuring out that you should regionalize the franchise isn't a genius move... it is a common sense move. I consider a marketing genius to be someone like David Ogilvy or John Brinkley or Steve Jobs. That said, he will be and probably should be retained.
  6. Manziel and Hoyer both looked horrendous last night. Both were badly outplayed by rookie free agent QB Connor Shaw.
  7. I never knew how much you guys like Wang. ;)
  8. I hear Terry Pegula is secretly building a droid army too.
  9. This year I got roped into being commissioner of a new league of mostly non-expert fantasy footballers. Have never been a commissioner before, so it is different. I went with ESPN as the host, although there are a ton of options for league hosting sites these days. I got to set up the scoring system, which was kind of fun. Should be interesting...
  10. http://wateruseitwis...ys-to-conserve/
  11. I'm already sick of watching videos of people dumping water over their heads. ....yeah, I went there. (yes, I know it is for a good cause)
  12. Depends on league scoring, of course, but I'd go with Julius Thomas. Sanders is the third best receiving option on his own team (D. Thomas & Welker). Plus, good TEs are harder to find and thus more valuable.
  13. I regularly get this song stuck in my head. On march the saints... http://youtu.be/NuEX2n3YDfA
  14. My apologies. I'm just getting a little tired of the obsession with losing on purpose that seems to have become all the rage around Western New York these days! ;)
  15. Of course... in a run first offense with very few passing attempts. The 'hawks run the ball to the point where the linebackers and safeties have to cheat up to stop the run. Then things open up for the QB. He is a game manager, at least at this point in his career. BTW - Wilson was a third round pick, which works against your whole tanking argument.
  16. Yep. We got him by winning a coin flip (over Vancouver). To the general topic, you don't lose on purpose ever. In any sport. Your job as a professional athlete, as a coach, as a GM is to win games. All draft picks are gambles and there isn't a single draft throughout history where the first pick ended up being a better player than the second pick, the second better than the third, and so forth down the draft. There is a huge amount of noise in the draft. Win as many games as you can. Pick wherever you end up. And, build a team through shrewd transactions and keen talent evaluation. If you need to lose on purpose to build a team then you're a lousy GM.
  17. So the Seahawks won the Super Bowl because they had one of the top quarterbacks? Really? Russell Wilson was efficient, but he was 32nd in the NFL in passing yards per game. The best defense in the league and 4th best rushing attack (plus limiting turnovers, etc.) is why the 'hawks were good. In any sport there is no one way to win. Certainly having a really good QB helps. But, you can win a Super Bowl without one.
  18. I think the guy dropping the puck is Mr. Arthur Slugworth.
  19. This is why I thought we might pick up a veteran older third line center in the off-season. As it stand, and assuming Sam goes back to Juniors, I think Nolan trusts Flynn. He might end up as center #3.
  20. MDZ is a big downgrade from Timonen.
  21. Good article. ...and F Bon Jovi! I hated that guy's music back in the 80s. How that guy is still relevant three decades later is beyond me.
  22. Easley makes it as a special teams ace. I like Hogan better than TJ Graham. Williams, Watkins, Woods, Goodwin, Hogan, Easley (ST) should be the six roster receivers this year.
  23. Lewis was playing with some camp fodder type players, but he didn't have a great half. Tuel was rather pedestrian as well, although he has some nice completions. Both Lewis and Tuel (to a lesser extent) took some check down throws that were "head scratchers" based on down-and-distance. Some positives: our first team defense stopped the run, which was nice to see. It was good to see journeyman DT Landon Cohen terrorize the Giants backup O-line. And, my boy Kenny Ladler did okay (I'm rooting for him to at least make the practice squad).
