My far-from-expert assessment after watching the game over last night is that Weber and Myers were solid by their standards. I've always liked Benoit and Gorges, but they will take some time to adjust to a new team and new system. Risto as we all know should be a good one in the future. The guy I thought was really disappointing last night was Meszaros. BTW - I've been anti-Myers for a long time and would certainly trade him for a promising young offensive player. IMHO, we need someone who can dangle the puck and hold onto it more than a couple of seconds.

Apparently everyone has this team pegged after only one game. *ducks and runs for cover*

Ever fart in your office and then someone important stops by to chat with you? ...not good.

I like the new on-ice imaging technology that the Preds went to this year...
-
5 new forwards, 3 new defensemen, a new goaltender, a new captain, a new coach and a new GM compared to Game 1 last year. There is hope.
-
Weber was really bad last year and brings absolutely nothing on the offensive end. And, he has 2 more years left on his current contract (thanks, Darcy). Maybe a new defense partner will bring the best out of Mike?
-
As the guys on SiriusXM NHL radio always mention, it is a defensive league. Teams will win or lose for the most part based on their defensive play and goaltending (yet fans tend to obsess over scorers). That is why we (a) can't automatically conclude the Sabres will suck as bad as last year - we have 4 of 6 new defensemen this year, and (b) can't automatically anoint the Isles as "much improved" - the Isles still haven't shown they can defend at a level of a playoff team.
-
Wish I could watch tonight (had to DVR the game). I'll be at opening night down here in Nashville rooting on Derek Roy and Goose and the boys. As always, Go Sabres!

Those who profess to love manual transmissions are those who don't have to sit in rush hour commutes in places like DC, NYC, LA, Philly, etc. Automatic is practically required for crowded big cities these days.

Our opening night roster looks a heck of a lot different than the AHL lineup we ended last year with. It is amazing what a (seemingly) competent GM can do in a short period of time.

Sabres name Brian Gionta 27th team captain; Gorges and Moulson get As

Yes. Gionta's family crest is a picture of a barracuda eating Neil Armstrong. ...I once saw him scissor kick Angela Lansberry. -
I think Grigs knows he is only down there until Samson's 9 games are up. Murray has some flexibility to add a waiver pick up from another team though, so that could possibly impact Grigorenko's status.

Brian Gionta is a 10-foot tall beast man who showers in vodka and feeds his baby shrimp scampi! -
This is the best defense the Bills have had in a long time. They've only given up 89 points through 5 games and are top-5 against the run. And, some of those 89 points are on the offense (2 INT returns for touchdowns the last 2 weeks). Great game by the D today.

Yeah, Orton had a couple of money plays that I feel confident EJ wouldn't have made. The long pass to Goodwin that set up the Bills TD. And, of course, the big one to Watkins that got the Bills into position for that winning field goal. On the road against one of the best defensive teams in the league, and behind 2 rookie offensive linemen, I think Orton was okay. He seemed rusty at first, but got better as he went.
-
I don't care how ugly it was, a win is a win. That pick-6 by Orton was just brutal. But, he also made just enough plays to win the game. So, thumbs up for Orton in his first regular season game in a long time (30 of 43 for 308).

Calvin is hurt and played last game with a severely sprained ankle. At no point in the game did he play two plays in a row, and pretty much couldn't run. Was only on the field for 30ish snaps. He will still be hobbled this Sunday, but perhaps a little more mobile than this past weekend.

Mr. ET! I pity the fool who don't phone home.

Anyone can look up stats, but what do your eyes tell you about Orton? Stats are devoid of context. They never tell the whole picture. Personally, I liked Orton in Chicago and in Denver, although he can be inconsistent from game-to-game. He is a "game manager" more than a gunslinger, but he makes quick decisions and can win with the proper supporting cast. This decision has little to do with Orton and has everything to do with EJ playing absolutely terrible football. Getting him out of there increases the team's chance of winning in the short-term. And, sitting the bench for a while will give EJ a chance to regain some confidence, which is clearly shot.

To pile on EJ Manuel a little more... ouch: http://www.syracuse....s_in_the_n.html

EJ was only 21 of 44. And, for the second week in a row he couldn't get the ball to the wide receivers. A few of those throws weren't even close. If we have even an average QB we'd be 3-1, maybe even 4-0. I'm normally patient with young players, but I'm not sure Marone can afford to be patient with his job on the line.

I've been a Preds season ticket holder for years and this is the first one I've seen here.
-
Preds played a double header today. 3pm against the Panthers and against at 7pm against the same team. Split squad doubleheader. Weird. A ticket got you into both games. Speaking of the Preds, and given the argument about Derek Roy above, Laviolette has put Roy on a scoring line with Craig Smith and Colin Wilson. Derek should see a lot of ice time this year.

Absolutely right. It is a little know fact that when financial institutions sell the debt to collection agencies, they often don't provide the necessary paperwork should the claim be challenged. Go to general court on a Friday and you'll see case after case of "Financial institution vs. individual debtor." It is a shame the debtors rarely show up to challenge the claim. Some/many of them would win if they did.

CCTC is delisted. I like to gamble on penny stocks in sectors that I know (mainly telecom), but delisted stocks should almost always be avoided like the plague. Outstanding shares often get canceled when/if these companies restructure. Don't know AVGO, but analysts seem to like it. Go with your instincts!
