I think we collectively underestimated how much losing The Hoff would matter. He definitely mailed it in at the end of last year, but he was the only defenseman who could consistently generate offense. The Hoff was on the ice for 80 of the 150 goals the Sabres scored last year.

Much better offensive period for us. We took 4 shots, which is a big improvement over the 3 we took in the first. :thumbsup:

Shots now 29 to 7.

We have to be the worst passing team in the league. I don't think anyone else is even close.

Well, that was predictable. Take 4 or 5 penalties per period against a team like the Ducks and you're bound to give up goals.

I see nothing in Meszaros' game that makes me think he still has the form he had early in his career. Not sure what happened to the guy. Time for Zadorov?

Just rewatched the game and IMHO, Meszaros is absolutely terrible. The dude is -5 after 2 games. Get him off my team. Benoit was playing "Alamo-mode" most of the evening - gave way too much time and space. Hodgson still doesn't play defense. Gionta bring leadership, but isn't very effective at much of anything. Reinhart obviously looks like a kid playing against men. Our powerplay is worthless without The Hoff on the point. All that said, it was a pretty good 2 first two periods on the road against the best team in hockey.

That sounds dirty.

Samson isn't ready and everyone knows it. And, an NHL-ready guy has to sit while the kid plays, which hurts the team (although we can't score either way, so maybe it doesn't matter much). I agree that there is no reason for him to get all 9 games.
