The term "Messy Balls" was first used in the 12-21-14 GDT. :D Both of these guys are UFAs. If we could dump one or both for a late round pick or two I'd be happy.

To discuss two threads at once (trade speculation thread), Ribero is a guy everyone said "oh, he has problems" and "oh, he is a bad locker room guy"... David Poile signed him for only $1 million per year and the dude is playing absolutely spectacular hockey this year for the Preds (GWG yesterday) and by all accounts fits in very well with his new teammates. I think there is a 99% chance CoHo gets bought out this summer. The only way to avoid that would be to somehow trade him for a late-round draft pick. But, I highly doubt any team would do that knowing they could get him for cheaper after the buy-out.

I see the Isles are only 5-5 over their last 10 and have lost 4 of the last 5. If they keep sliding we have an outside shot at two lottery picks (a long shot, but still worth rooting for).- 193 replies

With E. Kane it seems like it is all a bunch of hearsay and piling on. So what if he does pushups with cash and wears track suits. Other pro sports are full of guys like that. Is it so outrageous just because he plays a sport where historically the players are more conservative? To me the only question that matters is can he help a team win a Cup. If the latter, then the other stuff is noise.

What's the specific issue with him? Everyone is saying he is a terrible guy, but no one seems to know exactly why.

40 shots against. What else is new.
-
Myers could have easily cleared the zone too, but he circled back into his end then gave it to Strachan who ###### the bed. That was brutal.
-
Wow. Terrible decisions from our d-men (especially Strachan) led to that goal. That was brutal.
-
I really like Stewart. He is fitting in well with Girgs and Ennis. Big, fast, physical, can fight and can score a little bit.
-
Benn and Myers were teammates in Kelowna.

We lulled the Stars to sleep.

Bank shot. Just like they draw 'em up.

Rayzer can't say Jokipakka.

We've got scouts in Toronto. Then again, we probably have scouts in every building since we're about the trade half the team. Clarkson a healthy scratch for the Leafs BTW.

Incognito put the "offensive" in offensive line. But, if his teammates are okay with him and he helps the run game, then why not.

Up thread they were talking about the sudden point increase. But, yeah, Z got bigger and stronger with age. He is the son of an Olympic wrestler. Seems like it is just in his DNA to play a physical style. With Myers not so much, although he is playing nastier of late.

Sprinkles are for winners.

I think it is even simpler than that. Chara didn't play the power play for the Isles. Ottawa put him on the top pair (he was a second pair guy on the Island) and put him on the first power play unit. That's where the big point increase came from (e.g. 17 power play points in 2002-2003 with Ottawa versus zero with the Isles).

...and my gin and tonic glasses too!

Obviously. But, Shea is deadly accurate with his shot. So is Josi. They can win games on their own.

I'm trying to be somewhat objective, but I honestly think Sabres fans wildly overvalue Myers. And, a lot of my perspective comes from watching really talented two-way defensemen here in Nashville. The gap between Myers and guys like Shea Weber, Roman Josi, Seth Jones and Matty Ekholm is considerable. I think Myers is a really good penalty killer because of his reach (he and Chara are the only guys in the league who have longer sticks than what the rules allow). But, in no way, shape or form do I see Myers as a guy any team with Cup aspirations builds around. I think that's where Tim Murray is too. He's clearly taking calls about Myers and has been for quite some time. Myers plays over 25 minutes a game and has only 11 points and 2 goals. That's terrible given he is on the ice for half the game. There is a reason the Sabres have an anemic offense and it isn't all because the forwards forgot how to finish. In today's NHL much of the offense is generated from the backend. Again, I think Murray knows this. Hence the Fowler rumors.

Anaheim needs a defense-first guy, which is what I see Myers as. The Ducks are only 17th in the league in goals against per game (2.62) and 17th on the PK. They could use more size on the back-end too. Fowler is an offensive d-man who has learned how to play in his own zone over the past couple of seasons. He isn't very physical. But, he is better with the puck on his stick than Myers. And, he is much better than Myers on the power play from what I've seen. I watched Fowler play last night here in Nashville and thought he looked good... although I had a few beers in me, so my judgment may have been off!

The reason Kane was put on IR couldn't be more obvious. If there wasn't an internal war between he and his teammates, he wouldn't be on IR. I agree. Different locker rooms have very different dynamics. While Kane may be an immature kid who rubs his older teammates the wrong way, I haven't read anything about him being a criminal or drug addict or getting into brawls or anything like that.

The Jets won't want to move him to a Western Conference team. And, some of the potential suitors in the East don't need a hurt player and/or a guy who costs $6 million against the Cap in the coming years. Buffalo could put him on the shelf for the rest of the year... and then he could play wing for Jack Eichel. :flirt: Saw this on twitter. Pretty funny. Kane needs a traxedo.
