  1. Yeah, I don't see it as being particularly complicated. Write something. Hit send. Deal with the consequences. But, perhaps I live in an oversimplified world. ;)
  2. I agree with this 100%. I hate "like" buttons. Leave that for Facebook.
  3. Quenneville normally only plays 2 pairs in the playoffs. It's just what he does. He usually only rolls 3 forward lines too. He's won 2 Cups with this philosophy.
  4. Glad the Rangers lost. I'm hoping Chicago loses too. I root only for unoriginal 24 teams. ;)
  5. For current coaches, no one has won more than one Cup other than Sutter and Joel Q. It is incredibly hard to win even one in today's game where lucky bounces often dictate playoff series winners.
  6. WGR will have the news conference. It's exciting to finally have a head coach, and one with a Stanley Cup victory on his resume. Welcome Disco Dan Bylsma!
  7. Considering the goaltending problems that plagued Bylsma in Pittsburgh (Fleurry had a .891 playoff save % post-Cup), I'd think Irbe would be a useful addition to the staff. Beyond that ????
  8. Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 3m3 minutes ago Sounds like dispute/clarity over draft pick compensation is one of the few things holding up the Sabres hiring Bylsma. Can't be deal breaker
  9. The Pens have little organizational depth since year-after-year they trade away top-3 draft picks to acquire players at the trade deadline. That's why they want a 1st rounder this year if they can swing it. They're desperate to get some "home grown" youth into the organization. We have tons of picks and prospects (and cap space), but I don't think the Pens have anyone worth #21 that they'd be willing to part with. It'd have to be a multi-player deal of some sort (with the Bylsma compensation factored in as a small part of the deal).
  10. Bylsma only has the Sabres or Devils left and it doesn't sound like the Devils are interested. So, Bylsma to Buffalo should be a done deal if both sides are interested and the terms of the contract are right. Disco Dan just lost some negotiating leverage with the SJ hiring.
  11. Glad to see the Ducks win this one. Chicago is the most hated team here in Nashville for a variety of reasons.
  12. Frederick Andersen from Denmark. The Great Dane. (Drafted by the Ducks)
  13. Down two in the third? No problem for the Ducks.
  14. Speaking of Puppa.... http://www.barstoolsports.com/barstoolu/flight-forced-to-make-emergency-landing-after-someone-took-a--in-the-bathroom-so-disgusting-it-was-declared-hazardous-to-health/
  15. My take: neither anyone on this board, nor most in the media know much of anything about the inner workings of the Sabres.
  16. Yeah, there is a very long stream of academic literature on this. And, overwhelmingly people select the certain payout as you suggest.
  17. He doesn't get talked about much, but Frederik Andersen has been great in net for the Ducks.
  18. I don't want any Canadians coaching this team. And on that note, I don't want any players with Canadian names like Gord or Lorne or Stu. :D
  19. I just listened to the interview (before reading anything on this board) and I immediately though it was a not-so-subtle jab at Nolan.
  20. We're talking about two different things. I'm talking about the subtle art of PR for those in a high profile profession. You guys are talking about whether or not family is important. No doubt it is to everyone, myself included. I'm simply saying that for those in professions where there is media involved whenever anyone switches jobs (as is the case in my profession), you pretty much have two things you can say publicly as to why you switched jobs: (1) the ultra-generic "it was time for a change" or the equally generic "my family and I needed a change", or (2) "I made this decision based on family considerations" (often times followed by a "to be closer to _____" statement). It is how the game is played. Whether or not it was a family decision doesn't matter. You'll say the same thing either way. BTW - On May 8th or so Babcock's statement was something to the effect of "my wife and kids love Detroit and don't want to leave." ;)
  21. I'm down with Bylsma. I'm just hopefully the search can be wrapped up relatively quickly so Murray can turn his attention to drafting, free agents, and trades.
  22. Do you have a $50 million contract on the table in Nashville? If so, I think your wife might go along with it. :P These guys are hyper-competitive, motivated, egotistical, driven, etc. I think Babcock wanted a big raise and he wanted power. And, I think he wanted to be in the biggest hockey market on the planet (Toronto). No shame in that. He played the negotiating game to a tee, which I personally respect. Then he played the universal "family" card, which works so well in politically uncomfortable situations. Maybe it was all about family, but I'm suspicious given how often the "family" card is played. In my profession 99% of the time when someone makes a move it is because of "family." ...only it really isn't.
  23. The "family" angle is PR 101 and most of the time holds little-to-no weight in my experience. Whenever anyone in my profession makes a move it is because of "family"... whenever they turn down an offer it is because of "family"... whenever anyone retires it is to spend more time with "family." Politically, "family" is a universally accepted out for just about any uncomfortable situation. The truth is often something very different.
