    To me THIS is exactly why we traded Stafford and Myers. It is subtle point, but some guys rise to the occasion when it matters most (e.g., Drury). We can quote stats all day long, but I (and many of this board) never saw Stafford and Myers as guys who could take a team to the promised land. I personally think that was a big reason GMTM moved those guys. Are Kane and Bogosian guys who will rise to the occasion when it matters? ...That remains to be seen. I'm in agreement with others that it is absurd to declare "winners" 8 games into the first full season after the trade.

    Last I checked, that "winning" trade didn't do a thing to help the Jets avoid getting swept in the first round of the playoffs. And, I'm pretty sure the Cup isn't awarded based on the first 8 games of the season. But, I guess sports writers need to create stories in order to keep people interested...

    The Preds re-signed defensman Mattias Ekholm for 6 years. He is a really good young defenseman. Might be my favorite Preds player. http://predators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=784784

    Blind speculation, but Anaheim has had scouts in the building the past few games. We need goaltending and they have 3 NHL-ready goalies (Gibson is down on the farm). Not sure what Anaheim would want back, but presumably some forward help. (Again, just wild speculation on my part) Edit: or it could just be the obvious and Evander Kane will be out for a while...

    The problem with quoting stats is they are devoid of context. Johnson got about half of his NHL games on a Presidents Trophy-winning Bruins team that no one could score on. Otherwise, he hasn't been very good. That's why he has been on 5 teams already.

    I just rewatched the game and Johnson was terrible. If your goalie can't make the occasional difficult save, you won't win many games in this league. With the exception of the end of last game (especially OT and the shootout), the guy has looked consistently shaky IMHO. It's just been masked by not facing many shots against in prior games. I'm looking forward to seeing Linus Ullmark in net next game.

    Jhonas was great in the first period. Stopped 18 of 18 shots. The last Kings goal was Lucic from The Hoff. That just sounds weird.

    Jiri Sekac got the goal. The Perry Getzlaf line looked dangerous, but Weber, Josi, Jones and Matty Ekholm did a good job shutting them down 5-on5. Khudobin wasn't good. He gave up at least one fairly soft goal.

    The Preds just smoked Anaheim 5-1 to go to 6-1 on the season. Got the Pens in town on Saturday (I'll be at that game). Hodgson was scratched on Tuesday and got the least ice time of any of the Preds tonight. He may be out of the league before long if he doesn't learn to play defense.

    Here is an unexpected stat: as a team we're giving up the second fewest shots against per game. What a difference from last year.

    I watched Pysyk closely tonight and I really liked his game. He was probably our best defenseman tonight (Risto didn't have his best game).
