I think it is less about who we drafted and more about what we did do with our draft capital and current roster capital to improve this team. On paper after the draft we are at best a wash and more than likely reasonably worse/ and or have lost ground with those we are competing with. I would say this draft week was a failure overall with regards to immediate improvement on the team essentially (Malestyn plus/Skinner Minus). We shall see what free agency brings, but I expect there is just going to be more of the same old same old we have seen for over a decade... hope I am wrong.

Rumor: There has been word that teams don’t want to deal with Buffalo
JP51 replied to Buffalonill's topic in The Aud Club
100% agree just didn't want to blame it all on him as this took a while to fall this far. He hasn't sold players on his vision nor has he built a pipeline of prospects that look like they are the mix needed to win. Way overloaded with finesse players and lacking those who will bring physicality and space management. His management of Eichel I also feel had turned players off to this management. I can think of no other team in the league where the overall reputation is worse. I don't think it changes until a respected Gm with vision and a plan is brought in. Who that is and who would want to come here to do this I don't know. -
Rumor: There has been word that teams don’t want to deal with Buffalo

I agree where he falls down is, and he bears a good portion of the blame but not all... the abject failure and incompetence of an entire organization over a vast period of time. Getting a top 6 vet or Top 2 D pair vet to want to walk into the abyss that is the Sabres is simply near impossible. Imo KA is a dead GM walking unless existing prospects vault us into a playoff run. And no making the playoffs and losing 4 - 1 in a rout isn't gonna do it. So to me he will fail to land the players we need to improve the team to legitimate status this year and will be gone. Just my take -
15 Years of mismanagement and abject failure

Lol if only he was at that level... more like adams grabs the toilet brush and starts cleaning rival locker rooms

I don't disagree i personally think he knows it's now or never. I think he is stuck and suffering from 2 decades of incompetence and his own failure to recognize or at least execute on what is needed to make a championship team. The brand he is working with has been so devalued it is literally at junk bond status at this point. He is part not all of the reason. But the fact of the matter is he had been unable to lead them out of the wilderness. Coaches, players. Etc... would prefer not to engage the train wreck that is the Sabres and who can blame them. The only way he can bring in top end talent is if he drastically over pays. We will see how that works. In the end he will get this year but it is my belief he is a dead man walking and will not and probably cannot accumulate what he needs to right this ship. As much as we all hate this in my humble opinion the only way to fix this is to pay mega bucks for a GM with credibility and a plan that players may see as someone capable of righting this ship. Who that is please don't ask i don't know of anyone out there at this point that does this.... maybe you all have ideas. In the end I am sorry but I feel more disappointment in our immediate future. Again just my feelings and where I am at now. I hope I am wrong.

Sabres acquire Forward Beck Malenstvn for 43rd Overall
JP51 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I don't hate this move I like he is thinking grit. Interesting take on the stats though. Big price to pay but hoping we love this guy and the trade -
Listen I get it... the European thing has less to do about size and more to do about style. My belief is that 5 years from no no one will compare Iginlas style of play and ability to take away space to Helenius. If I am building a pond hockey team let's say with no boards and unlimited space I am valuing speed stickhandling and puck movement overall in the style I am looking for. If I am succeeding in European hockey where the rink is 15 feet wider I worry less about operation in small space and taking away space and naturally the skilled skaters will be more successful. When I look at a more confined NHL surface space eating and operating in confined space exponentially becomes more valuable. This does not mean Europeans can't do it nor does it mean that every player on your team has to Excell at it. My belief though is that you need a solid mix of both. We do not .. we have an abundance of skilled skaters etc... we need people to play in confined space. The over drafting of Europeans has been a theme here for years and we see the results. Maybe Helenius is the second coming of Wendel Clark... I don't know. But philosophically I can't agree with what Adams is doing because let's face it they are 18 yr old kids and no one knows how they will end up. But philosophically I believe his focus needs to be on players that operate in a smaller space and are skilled at taking away space. I respect your disagreement with that... but it's simply the way I see it. You see it differently and that's ok time will tell.

Love this I think you nailed it with suitable trade... I think he tried I really do... I think the Brand has been devalued to Coyote staus and players with NMC won't come here. This is sad... to answer the question I would have done 1 of 3 things in order 1. Try hard to move up for Tij Iginla 2. Not trade back take Sam Dickinson at 11 3. If 1 and 2 aren't possible I take Cole Eiserman at 16.

Sabres Draft #14: Konsta Helenius, 5'11" 189lb Center

I love how you say I am wrong as if any of us know how an 18 yr old is gonna play out in 6 years. You said I was wrong when I told you who Adams would pick too... we don't agree. I respect your opinion... I don't even say you are wrong... I say his (adams) philosophy is flawed and the look on Lindys face should say something about that. Time will tell -

Cmon man he is another European under 6 ft under 200lbs prospect in a 6'1 205 leauge that will never strike fear into the hearts of anyone in the corner... please just please... it's Adams motif and the motif of this team for 2 failing decades. -

Aaaaaaaand Adams takes another European Figure skater with Dorothy Hamilon hair flowing like Ron Dugay... anyone surprised? FIRE HIM NOW -
Totally agree... we have got to balance this team out with players who operate in small space and take away space physically. It will also do wonders for our highly skilled players by giving them some space and liberate some of those other players like Cozens, Tuch, Dahlin and maybe even Thompson and Power who will be inclined to use thier size if they dont have to be the #1 aggressors on this team. (although I am not sure Power has it in him)

Sabres Trade the 11th pick to San Jose for 14th and 42nd Overall
JP51 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I think he is gonna try, but I worry he is gonna force it because the players he is after with NMCs are not going to waive them for us... this is going to be interesting. I think we end up way over paying for a FA ... but I hope he makes some magic. -
Jeff Skinner rumors, trade and buyout speculation swirling
JP51 replied to Flashsabre's topic in The Aud Club
at this point LOL I would take him... It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember it was less about his play and more about his fit in the locker room. Not sure his team mates were supportive of him... but who knows the memory fades. But hell remember when Roy Pomenville and Vanek were our 3rd line.... that was a stacked team. -
