I think this is just the Sabre way... take talented kids... ruin them in the country club system... trade them and put them in a competent one and watch them succeed. Nothing changes until we change from the top down.

This is a trade Kevyn Adams would clearly look to do... I can hear in his head right now... I have a feeling that alot of players have blackballed us with NTCs I dont think this changes until we begin ascent into contention and demonstrate at least a moderate level of FO functionality. JMO

Thompson/Cousins - I think they bounce back this year. I think the presence of a more physical team around them helps. Samulesson/Quinn - I think capable but I worry about injuries. I think Quinn when he is in there is a pretty dynamic player if he figures a way out to stay healthy I think he becomes Top 3. But, if he isnt available then this is a problem. Sams same thing like his play, not available. Power - wish I was higher on this kid, if he develops his physical game then I think he does, I just havent seen glimpses of his willingness to use his size. Hope this changes as he gets older and fills out and the team becomes more physical in its mindset. Lindy Ruff could help him here. UPL - I think he may be capable, not sure he is ultimately as talented as Levi... he may get pushed by DL for the overall starting role this year. Well I hope he is for good reasons It would be nice to have a Edwards/Sauve, Fuhr/Hasek, Miller/Biron tandem again.

I am happier with it now than I have been in a long while. I do think if we are to contend we need a higher ceiling than UPLs fairly solid season last year. Whether that is UPL improving or Levi with a higher upside... or if both happens we could have a Biron/Miller situation and that would be a nice problem to have.

I agree, I would say that I would like to see Power and Thompson add more physicality in their game especially Power down low in the D zone. I think with their size if they were able to do that it would enhance them as players. I do think Tuch is fairly physical and uses it to his advantage.

agreed (although I love you mentioned Larry Playfair one of my all time favorites. ) And agreed, its not about fighting... its about operating in and taking away space. Its about puck control in the corners and willingness to go in and win the battle to get it. Dont need to fight but the ability to impose your physical will in those small and tough to get spaces is an important piece... absolutely, and they dont need to necessarily fight per se... but they need to operate in tough areas and small spaces... and they need to physically take away space. I will also say again... we need to win faceoffs more often, it is better to be chased than chase.

Uwe Krupp, Mike Wilson, Adam Creighton, Tyler Myers , Owen Power... all big dudes... I would rather go into the corner with any of them then Matt Barnaby lets say... So yes you need size but you need a balance Skill, Grit and Size... without it you are likely in the well... Sabres situation...

I agree here... there is a difference between a re tool and the abject and unparalleled gross incompetency that is the Sabres. In fact as you look at comparisons between teams there really is no one in the NHL that deserves to be compared to the Sabres maybe the Yotes but they left for Utah...

I agree (especially Bowen), I think even further to that the bread and butter if we are to improve will come internally a new system could result in a slower start followed by marked improvement. I like we have more size, I hope we take away space much better, maintain puck control in smaller space and absolutely need to win more faceoffs I would rather be chased than chase.

I think Adams had the right focus... remains to be seen if he got the right people... so I would say we are balanced better if the signings which I see really as 2nd 3rd tier pan out to be mostly 2nd tier maybe one pushes first tier with production. If they prove to be a Corey Stillman or ErikJohnson even Clifton like signing/trade then we still may be better with the Ruff factor... so all in all I say I like this team better than last year. Did they do enough to make the playoffs... someone give me a quarter, we can go best 2 out of 3 flips.

I actually think in division price is higher... you are losing 1 of Quinn, JJ or Cozens and Power...
