I took some time to watch several random Devils -game highlights from last season. There was a lot of bad goaltending on goals against and some giveaways, but there was also the same passive defensive playing in their own zone as we can see in Sabres games now. I also read comments about a defense structure that was too complicated to play, which I believe is the exactly same as he is trying and failing on in Buffalo this season. This is not only on Ruff, he was hired by someone that didn't do their homework. And if the front office don't do their homework, that is just making the losing culture worse.

Again, there are not many players that we need that are without trade protection, and no one will come to a Buffalo Sabres in current condition by their free will. But if we find a player that will improve the team and we can trade for we should. Byram, Joker, Bryson, Gilbert, Krebs, Lafferty, McLoad, Greenway, the whole Cozens line and any player in Rochester are all players we can trade. But I rather change coach first.

Think we are in a better position than most expansion teams with all the young players and prospects. Pegula just needs to sell the team, GM and the rest of the front office fired, and the coaching stuff replaced. Then trade away the players and other assetts and remake the roster to change the culture. Easy ๐.

I haven't seen him stand out in making nice moves with the puck, nor does he make mistakes one should expect for someone his age. The way he stands out is he is positioning himself so well both on offensive and defense that he never seem to be in trouble, and get noticed in a way you notice other in his age.

The "do not look out of place but did not stand out either" is Helenius in a nutshell. It is pretty much how he has played every time I have seen him on junior or mens national team or Liiga.

I have been thinking the exact same thing. Extend him. -
He traded away Mรครคttรค also, he plays on Utahs' first pair with Sergachev. That and getting rid of Walman, while having signed Justin Holl to a three year contract is not looking good. It is only Yzerman that keeps his job after that.

Waiting for Florida - Montreal game on tv and got some facts: only four teams has scored more PP goals than Patrik Laine in December.

Rumour about Byram as the player Detroit is interested in. But what do they have that we need and is on a contract that can be traded?
-
Oh, sorry, I am a Sabres fan, I didn't know that.

Detroit is 4-5 years away from playoff imo, but I guess they have to try something. They have excellent prospects in goal and on defense, Pellikka shows signs of being a new Lidstrom there. Unfortunately offensively there is only Raymond that is young that they can build around. And when they finally might have talented forwards enough, Larkins game might start to decline. But they have those veteran leaders that we are missing.

Is "accountability" even possible in the Sabres organization?
SabreFinn replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Luukkonen was interviewed by a finnish NHL writer with questions about Sabres and this losing streak. On a question if players demand accountability from each other, Luukkonens answer was that you can't ask for accountability from teammates if you don't ask it from yourself. Reading between the lines, Luukkonen was pissed off. -
Is it possible to send Benson to Rochester closer to Calder cup playoff?

Rempe gets eight game suspension for hit on Heiskanen.

It is what happens when they get scared of making mistakes. They get clumsy and lose touch squeezing their sticks too hard. What I noticed earlier in their losing streak was how passive they got in a leading position. This is totally on the coach and he must have approached the players in a really bad way for this to get this bad.

Drurys next victim might be Ryan Lindgren. He has lost his mind.

Draft Top 3 This Year, Win the Lottery Next Year
SabreFinn replied to JoeSchmoe's topic in The Aud Club
Colorado and Pittsburgh got lucky to get players like MacKinnon and Crosby that changed their culture. They got their cups. Toronto got Marner, Nylander and Matthews but they still won't get past the first round. Is it on the players or is it something else? What I am pointing at is that whoever is in charge for the Sabres has to change the culture in best possible way. There are several ways as we know and another rebuild is one possibility. I am not thinking we should sell players for draftpicks, except for those top picks we should change talent and draftpicks for players that hate to lose, that work hard and demand the same from their teammates. And probably overpay to keep them. But it has to be done right and this time with a professional GM. As I see it, It is still a risk to get caught in the acceptance of losing if we not get back on track fast. -

Draft Top 3 This Year, Win the Lottery Next Year
SabreFinn replied to JoeSchmoe's topic in The Aud Club
If we are in a position to draft top 2 by draftday, we should trade whatever needed to get both Martone and Misa. Those two on a line with Benson, and Helenius leading a second line together with Kulich and a defense with Dahlin and a group of big, hard stay at home defensmen is something that might make fans dreams come true. But it might take another 4-5 years. To me it requiers that we give away everything needed to get the draftpicks and then trade away every player needed to change the culture (hoping we can keep Dahlin). Then bring in some sort of misfits with attitude. As PerraultForever suggested in another thread. -
The Pettersson rumour was Friedman spitballing. But if they really was trading him I think Cozens and Byram would be suitable. He is one heck of a player when he is good, and we could give him better linemates than he has had recently. I think Dahlin could have a positive inpact on him also. 11milj is still a lot of money to hand out for a team where players lose their love for hockey, but I would take that chance.

Should We Trade Our Number One Pick This Year?
SabreFinn replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
Amen to that. There should be more preassure on him instead of single players. He and Adams created this mess. And when thinking about it, a owner that is hiding from critics and sort of manipulates media, what kind of a leader is that?
