What will be the Sabres approach at the trade deadline?
SabreFinn replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
They just need to stay the course. -

I rather would like to look at the teams in top and their defense. A team like Capitals were going down, then they added Thompson in net, and Chychrun and Roy on D. Carolina is a well coached machine with a playmaker like Aho and a big leader in Staal, but to me it is their defense that keeps them in a playoff position. Just as example. Otherwise they are not that much better than us. There is a lot of talking of our offensive players like Cozens and Quinn, and I agree they have struggled, and they are a part of the teamdefense. Still, to me, the big reason we are where we are is that we don't have defenders good enough to defend. It is all on the GM. Having a first line that produce is a important thing to have, and in the trade discussion, those who have played on first line recently are them I like to keep. A major retool is needed.

We need to trade one puckmoving D, and Byram is the one we should trade. -
I think it still depends on the results from coming games. If they win all four, or even three of them, very little will happen. Probably we still will see Greenway moved to a contender. And I think they will sell high on Joker. Lafferty and NAK has been disappointments and Lafferty is the player I am most sure will be gone. I hope they value The Amerks success enough to keep NAK there. If they lose coming games against Sjs and Habs Zucker will be gone also. Still hoping he returns next season. Bigger moves will happen during offseason. If they happen, not that sure about it.

If Sabres want to be a serious team and eventually a contender we should try to get a player like Marner. And I was surprised by how good twoway player he is when watching him in 4Nations.
-
I think a lot depends on who we could play Zegras with. He would bring playmaking qualities that we need on powerplay. 5on5 he would not bring much improvement. I would give Marner 13 million. But then we need to get Cozens or Powers' contract moved.
-
I see Zegras as the only realistic option as an upgrade on 2C. Tkachuk would be great, so would Mitch Marner. Both played great 4nations and could help the team take several steps forward, but I can not see them playing for Sabres. If we are talking centers named Elias, I would rather have the Boston Elias, even If none of them stood out at 4nations, and Lindholm has NMC.

They are creating a different culture it seems.

Lardis sounds like a decent third round pick by Hawks.

Finland played really bad for 55 minutes, and still could have tied the game. Disappointing misstakes that caused turnovers. The Canadians are way too good to play sloppy hockey against.
-
No starts for Luukkonen in the tournament. Lankinen starting goalie against Canada.
-
Understandable. I, who is used to soccer and Liiga where there is more points available, have been fooled to think there might be a chance. And then after some calculating realize that there isn't.
-
The Finnish Liiga has been ruined this way. There are way too many teams and not enough of good players. Young players are pushed into the league as cheap players to fill out the roster. They learn the needed tactics but skating will not be develop to the level it should be.
-
It is all based on the results. There are always loyal fans that show up no matter what, usually grumpy old men. But if the arena is full or half is all on the results. With all the amount of different sports on television these days I think it is easier to stay home and get good entertainment that way.
-
The 3,2,1 point system has been used in european leagues for years and have not heard complaints about it.
-
It is a disappointment, we are not going anywhere from the bottom half of the conference. They try to make moves and changes, but the results remain the same. What worries me is the constant status as a development team.

Russia would be in the tournament if Finland and Sweden had not refused to play against them I think. -

Vaakanainen has played solid since traded to Rangers, he will do fine as replacement to Hakanpää. But the lack of puckmovers in team Finland is a huge problem. -

Two veteran UFAs we should try to sign in offseason. -
Can line-ups be found somewhere? Who is playing with who?
-
Absolutely not this years first. Rather both top five protected 2026 and 2027 instead.
