Quinn + Peterka = Vanek + Pominville ?

Troy Terry is in his last year with Anaheim, who's at the bottom of the league at 15 points. He's another 5'11 guy. Last year he scored 37 goals as a 24 year old...

I like Krebs. Leave him alone. There were plenty of people criticizing Thompson when he was going through his first stages too.

Don't know if this player is "dying" to come to Buffalo or not, apparently the first highly limiting factor of bringing someone new to the team, but Brock Boeser's agent has gotten permission from the Canucks to seek a trade. At the risk of going 1 for 2 ( I was first to advocate acquiring Jost) I say why not? We have some forwards who are either declining, stale or just not working out. https://www.nhl.com/player/brock-boeser-8478444

Advanced Stats Say Goaltending the Issue, Not Defense

Can't find any information on and haven't heard anything about Ben Bishop. Has he retired? I thought I heard he might be working with Dallas Stars in some capacity. He's a beast at 6'7, only 36 years old with a lifetime GAA of 2.32...If he's healthy, he's still one of the best. -
I think Mittlestadt is/was Dahlin's roommate and he appears to be very popular on the team. He was an 8th overall draft choice and so far, he has really underachieved. I think as a player he is limited to offense, and even then, sporadically. When I heard he couldn't do even one pull-up in his first training camp, I didn't think he was even an NHL player. Has he become stronger? I don't know. Then there has been injuries. I think we need to trade Mittlestadt. Olofsson as a 7th rounder is an overachiever but appears to be a one trick pony. Reminds me a bit of Alex Kotalik. He has a spectacular shot and that's hard to find. There's a use for him on the pp although it appears that Cozens has now taken over his spot on the first pp for now. Could he become a shootout/pp specialist like Kotalik? The Sabres aren't in a lot of shootouts so that has limited use. I like overachievers and hope they can keep him around somehow. Asplund seems to be invisible on most nights, especially on offense. Not sure what to do with him except I think he belongs on the fourth line as a defensive specialist. Further, I can't wait until Okposo and Girgensons leave. They've had their moments but they've been part of the losing mentality of this team and I'd like to clear space for more youts and/or trade pickups. Okposo especially seems to have fallen off the table this year. And then you see guys like Compher, Rodrigues and Hagel, who the Sabres gave up on, turn into stars. You can't worry about letting someone go and then have them mesh with a happening team in this league and suddenly becoming a factor, but I worry anyway. We've had a tire fire here for too long and still need a lot of roster adjustments. Then again, the Sabres are the youngest team in the league...

Bruce Smith is awesome.

Here's highlights of that wild 9-8 Seattle-Kings game last night. Peterson relieved Quick and let in four goals in 16 shots. He broke his stick on the way out...and that was it for Peterson.

Jack Edwards appears to be in hot water. Fans have been saying that at times he sounds drunk, although he snaps right back to sounding normal and at times he sounds like he can't get the words out. https://forums.hfboards.com/threads/is-jack-edwards-ok.2908059/ The other day he made some cracks about Pat Maroon who, now, along with Stamkos, are making donations to an organization that helps the mentally ill in Jack Edwards' name. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/pat-maroon-jack-edwards-comments-mental-health-donation-1.1886473

Advanced Stats Say Goaltending the Issue, Not Defense

I think it's both. This is a perfect example of what's going on in the Sabres crease. I notice situations like this pretty often where an opponent crosses over from the left crease to the right post. The left d-man tries to guard the cutting opponent but the goalie gets in the way and the d-man ends up knocking the o-man into the goalie. I've seen this happen with Dahlin multiple times (he's getting more vicious every time) but opponents try this tactic of crashing the net or cutting toward the post. Many times the refs miss that the players enter the crease before the puck, which is supposed to be a penalty. The Sabres d have very few answers in the crease, especially now that Lyubushkin is hurt again. Need more physical defensemen not more finesse, a unsexy move, as opposed to Chychrun, who the Pegulas are personal friends with. -

I think Tokarski would be yet another bandaid in goal. I want a real star goalie next.
-
I'd like to see a big bruising defenseman like Oleksiak as a Sabre. We need more beef to clear the front of the net.

Anyone who gets a nickname like UPL, 6K, GMTM etc. etc. before they achieve anything all turn out to be failures. Maybe premature nicknames are destructive and gives the player or coach a false sense of achievement. Don't nickname people until they're consistently good.

Sabres Claim Tyson Jost Off Waivers; Bjork back to Rochester

Give him a chance. He hasn't even packed his bags yet. Incremental improvements are what we need. -

Tyson Jost just got cut by the Wild. He's a former 10th overall draft pick who's on the final year of a 2 year 4 million contract. He's 5'11 with limited production so far in the NHL.
