Physical play including fighting are missing from the game...
Porous Five Hole replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Aud Club
I think players don’t want to throw haymakers and hit a helmet visor with a bare hand. -
Welp, I have been preaching patience with this squad. They are in most games. They had a hot start. Yea, that shine has worn off. I’m trying to not let the sins of the last decade cloud my judgement of what the Sabres are trying to build here, but this is totally unacceptable. The media better find Kevyn Adams in the hallway tonight and put the cameras in his face. I want to see that these losses are hurting him as much or more than they’re hurting me. I want to know he’s willing to take action before we crater to last place. Oh wait, we are already there save for Ottawa. Just totally unacceptable.

It makes such a difference when Tage is on one side and VO is on the other. And Dahlin distributing. The goalie can’t cheat toward the shooter because we have two of them. I know there’s good data to run the PP from behind the net instead of the point, but this is working (8th in the league).

What is this team is missing to compete consistently?

You’re right that Buffalo doesn’t have a clear plan toward good goaltending in the NHL soon, but I’ll take the top-end forward talent the team has drafted along with two #1 overall defenseman. Acquiring skill and goal scoring (to me) is the hardest thing to do. And there are many ways to be hard to play against…which includes being elite offensively and relentless on the puck. My opinion is that things have changed since building from the crease out. Goaltending is too hard to predict and a certain threshold of Goals Forward is required to be a playoff team. Goals are still hard to come by. While the path toward top-flight goaltending isn’t clear today, and waiting for Levi seems to be too long-term and unknown to count on, it doesn’t mean that’s the only path forward. We all want the Sabres to be great asap, but it was never the plan for the team to be in the Stanley Cup final this year. And quite honestly, the Sabres may not have a short-to-medium plan for the crease right now…but that’s OK. The current goaltending contracts are all short term to this point. The Sabres have tons of assets to make a move over the summer if this team proves ready for the next step. -
I wonder if Bills fans will see this result and calm down a bit? I’m not saying Buffalo doesn’t have stuff to clean up, but losses are going to happen. See Phili laying an egg today at home on MNF.

My wife said not to worry about it and size doesn’t matter.

You just fundamentally disagree with the Sabres philosophy. They want their young guns to be playing a role higher than they should be today. The Sabres think that’s the best way to develop their young studs. As for your examples, Stralman is cooked. Schenn is interesting, but I don’t want him playing over Dahlin, Power, Joki, or Mule. To me, Lyubushkin is essentially a better Schenn who plays the game differently. And for better or worse, Bryson is here through next year. So was there really any room for Schenn anyway? Would he want to sit in the press box until injuries happened? On a last place team? I just don’t see it… -
I vote Linus Weissbach. He has the speed to play in the NHL.

Owen Power is 19 years old Peterka is 20 Cozens, Krebs & Quinn are 21 Dahlin & Mule are 22 If all these guys were Tage’s age (25) and we are still bad, then I would be concerned. But the team went youth movement/draft and develop. Tuch, Skinner, VO and other complementary pieces aren’t enough to be a playoff team today. It is what it is. -
I hear you, but the B’s have the best penalty kill in the league so far.

Sabres PP is eighth in the league. So has the problem been solved? https://www.espn.com/nhl/stats/team/_/table/offensive/sort/powerPlayPct/dir/desc

If you do that, you’re kicking to them and now a FG beats you. No reason to overthink this. JA17 is the QB you would want in this situation where you just need any positive yardage. He just screwed up.
