Iga struggled for sure. Jessie had a mental block to overcome, which was being in a QF of a major and she was 0-6 in those previous matches. To get to a semi is a big deal for her…especially as a 30 year old on tour. She has a legitimate shot to get to the final and is 1-0 against her semifinal opponent. Jessie is easy to root for and I’m excited to see how she fares on Friday.

Send me a trade offer because I have the same problem in week 12.

Seems like AI is overreacting to my last three selections of the draft. By and large, their ADP and my picks returned pretty good results for most of the draft.

Jessie Pegula just knocked off number one in the world Iga Swiatek and is through to the semis at the US Open!

I read the CBA. You’re guessing. -
On another note, I wish one of my favorite teams could do their job and win games that they’re supposed to. I root for the Virginia Tech Hokies in college football. They were a two touchdown favorite today and lost to Vanderbilt. This after an offseason of hype in which they were expected to be competitive for the first time since (checks notes) Tyrod?? They were down 17-3 at halftime. The Hokies haven't won a game where they trailed by ten or more points in seven years. Think about that. Down ten in the first quarter and the game is literally over. Just win the games you’re supposed to and let’s have a little fun. But not to be for teams I root for.

I think she’s easy to root for. A late bloomer who is likable. Drinking a Heineken during a post match press conference to ease the pain was so dang relatable.

Johnny Gaudreau and Brother Matthew Killed by Drunk Driver

I don’t think this is true. I did some research and found that his family will get his salary this year (9.75MM) and additionally a 1M death benefit. As an aside, Johnny’s earnings have been around 70MM in his career. I have no proof, but I’m sure Johnny had purchased some kind of personal life insurance to protect these future earnings. When you’re in his stratosphere of earnings, it is common practice of wealth management. From the team standpoint, it appears the contract is no longer cap eligible, and is now “new” money to be spent this season. A gofundme was established to assist his brother’s family as he was a father to be this December. Currently, the donations have eclipsed 400k. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-madeline-and-baby-tripp-after-tragedy Many NHL players have contributed, including old friends Eric Robinson & Mark Jankowski. -
Jessie Pegula is into the sweet 16 at the US Open. She has a winnable match to get to the quarterfinals, but then her draw runs into world #1 Iga Swiatek…who looks great. Jessie’s next match is 2024 Olympic Silver medalist Diana Shnaider who is an up and comer (never been this deep in a Major). They play Monday, time TBD.

Yes it did surprise me. Babich was linebackers coach a year ago. This is his first prominent role. So I figured he was going to learn on the job while McD continued to call plays. Like I said, McClappy was in a groove down the stretch last year.

“Count the times you see joy in remembrance today. And what an incredible way to live and legacy to leave.” -Draft insider Chris Peters on Johnny He’s right. We lost a good one. -
I remember Kevyn being excited about the Russians from 2021. Still only 21 today, but almost all duds in terms of NHL potential. Poltapov has ten goals in 112 KHL games (although positive plus minus in both years so maybe a potential 4th line guy?), Kisakov is a non factor so far in Rochester, and Sardarian can’t score in college despite being 21 and just finishing his sophomore campaign. 6th round pick Novikov might be the best of the class. Was pretty steady on there blue line for a rookie in ROC last year.

Two things: 1) not the time for this conversation. 2) reckless driving led to this. You should not be trying to pass a car via the median on the right. Rest in peace Johnny Hockey and Matthew. The Gaudreau’s & Blue Jackets fans will need to feel the love from all of us. -
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bobby-babich-will-call-the-bills-defensive-plays I was surprised to read this. McDermott as a play caller was excellent after the Eagles thrashing last year. I did not expect him to give that up.

How do you feel about the slotting of Wahlberg at 13? Seems low to me.

8pm or later please. Since this draft is done in under an hour, a late start won’t mean a late end.

If there is a “Ruff effect,” the same can be said for Bryam. I think people were upset with the trade because fans liked Casey M and Bo didn’t show much in his first 18 games…so folks are down on him. I see a 4th overall guy, super young, that showed hints of brilliance in the playoffs. He also missed time with various injuries and did not play as well when he came back from them. He should be coming in healthy and with an upgrade in head coach—he could take off. I expect it.

If folks aren’t high on Levi, it is because they're not paying attention. Draft pedigree should not be a litmus test any longer. I’m not here to advocate that he is fully formed and goalies are weird, but he’s already too good to play in the AHL. He posted a ridiculous .927 in Rochester last year with a 2.42 GAA. He was .923 in the playoffs and was the best player on the team against Syr. Compare that to the other Amerks goalies last season for context. Or compare it to UPL’s age 21 season. Only one AHL goalie had a better save percentage and he plays for the back to back Calder Cup champs (clearly a far superior team). He likely will play in ROC so he can continue to get as many starts as possible —and he’s not ready to be a #1 in the NHL. No matter how one defines prospect, people are sleeping on Devon. Maybe it just comes down to goalies being weird.

Those puff pieces are what gets my wife (who did not grow up with hockey) engaged in this team with me. I agree with you that I don’t need it, but after 13 years of futility….those puff personality pieces lead to her watching games with me. She never saw Hasek in 99 or the President’s trophy team of 06-07. She doesn’t know vintage Rick. Or a freakin playoff game lol And there’s an entire generation of Buffalonians who also don’t have that connection. I’m sure you’ll hit me with your patented red X Disagree emoji and I get it, but that stuff helps me get her to watch games in February with me so I’m here for it. -
Around the NHL: The 2024 Offseason

Sway is an RFA who has played 4 seasons, maxed out at 43 starts, with a Jennings and 7th in Vezina voting under his belt. Ten million is a lot. -
He was not a top pair guy toward the end of the AHL season nor the playoff around last year. Maybe he has a big summer, but I would not agree that he’s close to ascending above Gilbert and Bryson for the 7th D spot.

It was hilarious. 4D chess, amirite? I looked it up for fun. The player’s name is Pontus Holmberg and he’s got 91 NHL games to his credit so far (not including appearing in all seven playoff games in 2024). Frickin Botts 🤦♂️ -
He was inducted into the AHL hall of fame in 2020. He scored 338 goals in the AHL in 12 seasons. He was never fast enough to play in the NHL before his lost season due to acl tear.
