Gotta think losing Skinner and VO and their goals we may become a Jersey clone playing boring defensive style hockey. Can't say I look forward to that...preferred two years when they scored lots and were at least exciting. I am not convinced that many on this team can suddenly learn the concept of playing defensive hockey good enough to actually succeed.

Trade: C Ryan McLeod - Oilers for Matt Savoie
sabrefanday1 replied to tom webster's topic in The Aud Club
We are faster and bigger...that is good in itself. And of course you have to give something good to get something good back. We need this kind of player NOW and have lots of other nice prospects for the future. The future is NOW and this year coming up will determine KA's job thereafter... -
Victor Olofsson signs with Vegas 1 year 1.05 Million
sabrefanday1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Many forget the guy scored well over 20 goals few years back and did not even get a ton of playing time. I have no doubt he will do well, as will Jeffy. Losing a lot of goal right there... -
Sabres Sign Jason Zucker to a One Year 5 Million AAV Deal
sabrefanday1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
does not score as much as Grigs did he? We replace Skinner, VO and Grigs (like 50 goals) with 4th liners...can't wait for next season already said no one -
Sabres Sign Jason Zucker to a One Year 5 Million AAV Deal
sabrefanday1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
yep we are adding 4th liners while letting a ton of goals go elsewhere. whatever -
Jacob Bryson will not receive a qualifying offer from the Sabres
sabrefanday1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
well that means that everybody's favorite whipping boys (Skinner, VO, Brsyon) will be gone so we should be a whole lot better this year I guess. Seems KA has been listening to all you on this board... -
Jeff Skinner rumors, trade and buyout speculation swirling
sabrefanday1 replied to Flashsabre's topic in The Aud Club
I have to admit I find it rather strange that we are letting VO go and now Skinner too when we had problems scoring last year? I actually like OV and think that he will do very well with Pittsburg or whoever he signs with. Skinner will score 30+ goals for Toronto when he signs for cheap...then we can all lament letting him go as we already do with a ton of ex-Sabres... -
2024 Stanley Cup Final - Edmonton vs Florida
sabrefanday1 replied to Sabres Fan in NS's topic in The Aud Club
The old saying "that's why they play the games"...even though we all thought Dallas would easily beat the Oil things happen. Like winning a game on two power play goials and only having 10 shots on goal! Oh and Florida plays agreeively and tends to tak epenalites which will spell doom for them. The Oilers PP is downright scary... -
Yikes..Rangers looking good. Getting scoring from every line and Florida seems to be relying far too much on one line. Sure hate the thought of a Rangers/Oilers final...

Maybe KA is smarter then we think and he will at some point trade Byram for that elsuive 2nd center...or package one of our d-men with propects and/or picks for said centerman. Mitts was not going to come cheap but maybe now we can trade for a center who is more affordable?
-
Funny to think now that we got one Sam and could have drafted the other Sam instead, and now both are on Florida. I still think that even now we made the right choice but SB would sure look good in a Sabre uniform.

Trust me I am not saying by any means that I agree or think that they should all stay and go into next season with the same personnel. I really do not care in fact either way, but as has been pointed out their "big guns" al have no move contracts, and who would want Marner and/or Travares at their price-points? Treliving is a joke who totally detroyed Calgary and it is crazy that the leafs immediately hired him after being fired. Shanhan and company have accomplished nothing really but they are really pushing the "boy we sure shopwed a lot of hear tand drive by coming back to tie the series" rhetoric up here in Ontario (I was born and raised in Toronto suburbs and m ybro was a good foalie in the Leaf organization and was tutroed at one point by Johnny Bower and even had equipment given to him from Mr. Bower and I grew up playing and coaching hockey). I now live north of TO but even on facebook it is full of Leaf fans spewing their love for the team and how they battled back. So it is no tonly Keefe but even th efans are guilty of the continued love-affair...

Having played first without Nylander, then Mathews, probably saved a lot of jobs on the Leafs. If they had lost 4-1 heads were going to roll...coach Sheldon gone for sure, and who knows what other changes. Instead, they are now looking at it as some sort of moral victory that they battled back from down 3-1 without their superstar Mathews. Hear them talking of how coach was so proud of his team for battling back under such trying circumstances. Guess it'll be the same old same old for the Leafs and thei rfans next year as well then...

I guess I am just getting terribly cynical in my old age but I figured the NHL would love nothing more then a game 7 Saturday night in prime time TV. Funny Sabres get completely trashed any time they look "uninterested" or "not ready" yet that is exactly how the B's have looked the past 2 games. Leafs were in a win-win as if they lost they would just blame injuries to Nylander then Mathews and that took the pressure off of them. This may save that lousy coach's job they have...

Vsevolod Komarov named QMJHL defender of the year
sabrefanday1 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
We certainly do seem to have lots of really good prospects...hopefully some of them become good NHLer's for us. We seem to have a good future for sure! -
I think that Ruff was their man all along. In fact, if Lindy was not available, I am not so sure Granato would have been fired. TP and his cohorts want tickets sold and bringing back Lindy was a step in that direction.

hearing and reading where KA is pushing to get UPL signed...many question what kind of contract to give, especially after his recent contracts were and are big question marks now (see Dylan Cozens or Mule). Any thoughts on what the numbers should look like? Goalies are a strange bunch; can look awful, then real good, then regress again, which in UPL's case means that he may return to his "old self" next season, which would spell doom if given a big new contract.
-
I predicted this last week...I think the firing and hiring was already decided weeks ago by TP. They desperately need to put people in the seats and Lindy is very popular and I love his intensity, something this team has lacked for years. If they play with half the passion and heart that Lindy played with, then coached with, they will be significantly better. Figure this is a two year plan...if they do not make the playoffs in those two years both Lindy and KA are gone

Have to wonder about Colorado...they were beat 7-0 by the jets in their 2nd last game of regular season and then had a 3-0 lead on Vegas to lose 4-3...now they score 6 but allow7? Not exactly the greatest defensive system. Washington look so slow and just not very good...pretty sure the Sabres would put on a better show then that.
-
Clearly Leafs look overwhelmed...their coach is kinda a Granato clone...the team is horrible defenseively. Soon as they are knocked out they wil fire the coach and Sabres need to move fast to get their man before the Leafs are looking and take a coach we may want. Also wonder about Colorado after they were absolutely destroyed by the Peg 7-0 at home in their 2nd last game of the season...
-
We must trade from our strength to address our weakness...trade Byram if the right trade for a center comes along, one with grit and good at faceoffs. Kinda silly mind you when we had Mitts. Still do not like this trade. Good teams are built around strong centers and we have to greatly improve there. Dylan may be better on wing and Tage is no face-off demon. As for Byram and his sudden struggles, I worry he may not be as good as many think. Time will tell but we really do not need more young defensemen.

No difference then anything else these days after COVID...rich are getting a lot richer and the rest of us are getting hammered by out-of-control inflation put in motion when COVID was a thing and big companies saw it as a chance to jack up everything. Since then everything has skyrocketed and guys like TP have seen their company's value rise significantly. I mean Arizona owner is getting a bundle for his crappy hockey team...clearly Bills and Sabres are worth billions and that goes up every day. Not convinced TP is in any hurry to sell anything
-
Man there is some good and very interesting matchups. Colorado will have their hands full with The Peg, who beat the Avs 7-0 last week in Colorado. Playoff hockey is so darn good, and I have some greta memories of even our beloved Sabres (like Briere's many overtime goals and that shorty by Pomminstein versus Ottawa was the best in OT)... On another note, anybody think the Leafs will win a series? Their coach is a Granato clone in many ways, and the Leafs defense is pretty bad. Hate the Bruins too but imagine they will win that series.

Best to wait and see what the new coach wants...hopefully the new coach will be one who can get the best out of his players and maybe help guys like Krebs find his game. Or, converesly, the new coach may tell KA which need to go. Krebs value is so low that it really does not matter either way. Far more important issues to be addressed for sure, Having saifd that, Vegas drafted him I believe, and they sure seem to know what they are doing, so maybe with some work from a new coach he can become a valuable asset moving forward.
