If they’ve been vetting and grooming then it wasn’t an “open” competition. He may be the correct choice but this smells like a PR move. What’s he had a practice or 2 under Lindy? Certainly this came from above Lindy. Having lived through good and bad leadership for 40 years at a Fortune 50 company I feel I have a solid understanding of leadership and it’s often not your shiniest resume that is the best fit. It’s what does a specific group most need to motivate and maximize everyone’s talent. Could be warm fuzzies or could be a kick in the a$$. When you have a young core that’s never won anything you might want to let it play out.

I’ve thought all along it was foolish to give anyone the C prior to a season with a new coach and new system. Would do more harm than good to change at this point. They didn’t learn a thing by giving a too young Jack the C and hoping he’d grow into it.

Win or lose we’re seeing some excellent hustle out there. Much improved and loving what they’re bringing here in the third.

I’ll continue to watch - every solid win makes you think maybe they’re getting it, and every loss like last night gives you hope they realize it just might be team construction. So far KA’s focus on the 4th line doesn’t seem to have the impact maybe he thought it would. Not a big surprise since it wasn’t what held us back last year.

To be clear I injected Karmanos’ name. Pagnotta mentioned no potential successor. My thought process is/was Karmanos is highly thought of and he’d be gone if not bumped up.

Last week on XM Dave Pagnotta passed along a rumor that KA would take an operational position with Sabres and replaced as GM if the wheels fell off early this season. Only way that makes sense is if he wanted to play it back with our core and Karmanos voted for trades. I think KA makes it through the year regardless.

I see us middle of the pack in the bottom 8 of the east. To make playoffs need 60+ goals from the Cozens line and more physical play from the top 6 - a faster Greenway type in top 6. Goal tending will have to “steal” some games for us.
