$11.6 million for the next 7 years is too much money for a guy that is a mess right now. So much going on with him physically and mentally that it is too much of a gamble in my mind right now to give up top assets and hope that everything goes back to the way it was for last year.

What will be the Sabres approach at the trade deadline?
Flashsabre replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Yep. I’ve said for a couple years now that Cozens doesn’t have the smarts to play centre. When he has the puck on his stick and time to make a decision he always makes the wrong one. He needs to be a RWer who blazes up and down the ice and rips shots on net. -
Leone has been a real find. He has installed a standard he expects everyone to play to. Even when they win he is on the team because he didn’t like the way they played, it wasn’t up to their standard. And the players talk about the standard all the time in interviews. And they are a very talented team. First OA in the AHL with a ton of kids playing vital roles. I think Leone should be the next Sabres coach, not Appert. Team looks much better under Leone’s leadership.

I was very impressed with Slavin. I think hockey is starting to shift away from every dman has to be a puck moving dman that can run a PP and more towards solid defensive dmen that can impact the defensive zone.

“Rochester, we love you. Devon Levi has a 16-4-1 record, three shutouts and a 2.03 goals-against-average in his last 21 games with the Amerks.” This is great to see. Let Levi cook in the AHL. The impressive thing with Leone is that the Amerks are first OA with a ton of young players developing at the same time. And Kulich has played 4 games for them all season.

I think the only option is to go to 6 teams with Russia and a World Team made up of players from Czech, Slovakia, Germany, Austria etc. You can’t have a tournament in mid season with anymore teams or you are pushing it.
-
But here you are everyday still talking about them
-
Not even signing him to an ELC when they were desperate for forwards is truly one of the most mind boggling things. He had grit and was playing well in juniors. So sad the lack of ability that has sat in the Sabres GM chair for all these years.

Noah Östlund will be a good one. Do not trade him, let him cook in Rochester and continue to get stronger. He has a great brain for the game, great skater, distributor, great defensive awareness, shot has vastly improved. He checks all the boxes of what you want in a centre. And the Sabres don’t have that type of centre on the NHL roster. He is 20 years old and this last stretch has become a 1C for the Amerks which is impressive.

Byram has played well. The problem is the contract he will want. The problem with trading him is that you then need 2 top 4 Dmen.
-
I don’t disagree with you but I read he packed on pounds while he was injured and he looks noticeably bigger. Glad to see him playing so well. Him and Helenuis give them some good centre depth for the future. Wahlberg is the real wildcard. If he continues to develop he will give them a true power forward with skill. I like Novikov, Komarov, Strabek and Kleber but they can’t wait for them to develop. They need to address the backed now at the NHL level.
-
Great to hear. It seems either Östlund or Helenius can play well at any given time but not both simultaneously.😀 Great to see Östlund is getting back on track as a top centre prospect.

What can the Sabres take from this game? There is one player you could consider a kid or young player, Hughes, playing in this game and he looks terrible. They need more quality 25 to 32 year old players in the lineup.
-
But who was? Beniers hasn’t been great, neither has McTavish. Hughes is worse defensively than Power. Im not defending that Power has been great but I just don’t see anyone else from that draft that has passed Power.
-
World Championships against men. Again he would be fine out there.
-
Some of you really discount Power. He played in the World Championships at 18 and was good. He plays against all these guys. He would be just fine out there for Canada.
-
If they ever add Russia back plus a World team with players from other Nations and it would be great.
-
Binnington is going to be a major problem for Canada
-
Bieksa calls out Sweden for not playing Dahlin in OT. 2 OT losses for Sweden now
-
The Americans have a huge advantage between the pipes. Binnington scares the crap out of me. Feel much better with a Thompson in net but he wasn’t even chosen. Canada has had a problem developing top end goaltending the past while.

Every goalie does. The more AHL reps Levi has the less those ruts will rear their ugly head
