Savoie was good. I think this is one of the best tournaments there is. 3 league champions that have never played each other. One loss and you are in trouble.

Yuck shootouts to decide medal games

Doug MacLean on the radio today said he heard that John Davidson is retiring and Ken Holland will be heading to Columbus as President with Waddell as GM. McDavid’s old agent is taking over in Edmonton. We shall see

Parekth putting on a show tonight at the Memorial Cup. Looks like Erik Karlsson out there (the good parts of his game)

And Catton didn’t do that on a stacked team with a lot of supporting weapons either. If he somehow falls to 11 than you run to the podium. I don’t think he does though.
-
Jets hire Scott Arniel as coach. Good for him he has been an assistant forever. Does that leave Seattle and Columbus looking for coaches? Columbus need a GM first before they hire a coach.

I’m not for or against Waddell I just like the fact they are interested in a senior advisor person in the organization. Give me Rick Dudley or someone of that ilk. I think though that people that want to just crap on Waddell and put all the praise on Tulsky are a little misguided. Tulsky has been there a decade and they don’t want him as GM. If he is the one calling the shots then he deserves the criticism too for their awful goaltending situation the past several years that has cost them going any further and their lack of offensive weapons. The KK offer sheet has turned out to be a disaster as well however I believe that one came from the owner. All GMs have ups and downs.
-
Interesting that Tulsky was given the interim GM tag and NHL insider Andy Strickland says he will not be the next GM in Carolina.

What a weird trade a month before the draft. This is the kind of deal usually made night of when you see who is available at that spot.

https://www.nhl.com/sabres/news/2024-memorial-cup-how-to-watch-schedule-and-results-matt-savoie-vsevolod-komarov This article says all games will be on the NHL Network for those outside of Canada

Yeah I bet it would be POHO or he becomes GM and Adams becomes President to talk to Pegula everyday. Columbus would be GM, Chicago and Buffalo probably President, Senior adviser. If not Waddell I wonder if there are others that Buffalo is looking at for an upper management role.

On that note I find myself wondering what Sam Ventura and his dept are contributing to the building of this team. I haven’t seen a lot of moves that have pointed to strong analytics being involved atleast at the pro level. Is Adams not leaning on them as much? Be interesting to see how the summer plays out.

Dreger said on the radio that Elias Lindholm will get $8 million+ in free agency. Avoid that like the plague.

Do you see Helenius as a heart and soul player?

Boy Canada keeps winning despite Binnington in net
-
Yep he is being used as Canada’s number 1 dman, QBing the PP and getting some SH time as well. Very confident with the puck and making good choices. I think he has a fair amount of points too. They need to find him a defensive anchor partner that just lets him go.

Wow, Peterka kneed and it looked like it might be devastating but he is still in the game. Cozens and JJ have both been on the wrong end of brutal knee on knee hits this tournament and knock on wood, have come away alright.
-
Power has looked very good for Canada this tournament. Hopefully is ready for a jump next season.

Wyatt Johnson is a good example of drafting being an imperfect science. He was a talented minor player putting up 94 points as a minor midget in the GTHL. Then his first season in Windsor he only puts up 32 points in 50 games before Covid shut down his season. Nill took the chance on him and he comes back the next year and leads all of junior hockey with 124 points in 64 games and leads the O in playoff scoring. He has never looked back. But for every talented kid that makes a jump like that there are dozens that never make the jump. I would say on the whole Nill and Dallas has done better than any team with its drafting the past 3+ years.
