Carvel is a good coach. If he was coming in as an assistant that would be cool but no as HC. If this team is rebuilding then Granato is the guy. If they are somehow pulling this thing back on the tracks to try and compete by keeping everyone then there are a lot of vet coaches out there to hire.

He needs to get away from the Flyers. He will always be a waste of a 2nd OA pick there. He needs a fresh start where he can just be another face in the lineup. I think he can still have a decent career but yeah his trajectory was altered with the migraines.

You can only draft who is available. The Devils can’t draft Hischier and be mad they didn’t get McDavid because McDavid wasn’t available and Hischier was the best talent there. This is the main reason I don’t care if the Sabres get the 1OA pick this year, rather they didn’t. If they really want Beniers but take him 1OA then it is a lot of negative BS about his ability as a 1OA. But if they take him 30A then that same narrative doesn’t apply and he is free to play and develop his own game. Still a high standard at 3 OA but not the same as 1OA. Power seems to be the one everyone is focusing on at 1OA but will he be the best player from the draft? I have my doubts.

Full disclosure: I really don’t care if they draft Guenther. I have just been playing with you because of your unhealthy obsession with crapping on Beniers for no good reason. I prefer Beniers but Guenther brings a lot of the same qualities even though I was concerned with his game at the U18s. Let’s see how Power and Beniers do at the Worlds. Unfortunately Eklund is injured and won’t play.

Please explain to us why Guenther has the highest ceiling. After watching him play I would be worried about him hitting his floor let alone his ceiling.

Bennett needs to sit for a long time. That hit was disgusting and could have ended a career if not worse. And I hate TB for the cap b.s. and Kucherov miraculously coming back for game 1 in prime form.

I think Eichel wants out and the Sabres are sick of his sh$t. They realize it isn’t working with him and want to reshape this team even if it hurts now. Do you keep trying to Reno the dilapidated house or do you bite the bullet, tear it down and build a new house in your vision? I think this is where they are. They know the fans aren’t going to show up so they might as well try to rebuild it the way they think will work. Grow the young core, get good young assets for the big guns that want out and hey if you get a Wright or Bedard along the way so be it. Adams really wants an identity for the Sabres, like the Bruins always have. This is where I think their headspace is right now.

My thoughts: 1) with Eichel’s injury and this surgery it makes things very murky. It will not lead to full value in return into it is sorted out and he is deemed healthy. 2) the ONLY way you move Eichel to the East is if the offer BLOWS you away, meaning beyond what even the fans dream offers include. 3) there are teams in the West that make much more sense. L.A. And Anaheim as people have mentioned. 4) if he is indeed done in Buffalo then don’t rush this. Make sure he is healthy and maximize return. DO NOT settle for best offer if it is not up to snuff. 5) if L.A. Is interested, see about a package to maximize return: Eichel+ Risto and take Quick’s contract for a haul of Byfield, Turcotte, Thomas, multiple 1sts.

I’m not a fan of Guenther, simple as that. I don’t see this 90-100 point difference maker you keep pimping. I see a passenger on a line, a guy that needs someone else drive the play and get him the puck. Not a guy I want to spend a top pick on.

Real talk, Guenther was no great shakes last year either. He was good, not great. You are taking one 12 game stretch in a very disjointed WHL season to make your basis of a 100 point winger. I don’t see it. He was outplayed at the U18 by guys ranked much lower then him. He should have stepped forward and dominated but instead he was a passenger. Nothing in Guenther screams top pick to me. And why do you keep making this MacKinnon comparison? MacKinnon played in the U20 in his draft year, not the U18. Guenther was 7th or 8th leading scorer on his own team while playing top line minutes and top PP time. If anyone watched the games they knew MacKinnon was the better player than Drouin. Especially during the Memorial Cup run.

I know he does but: 1) Guenther hasn’t looked that good. His U18 was an eye opener. 2) You can cheer for your guy without baselessly knocking another prospect.

What is a top 20 centre in people’s minds? Is it a guy who puts up 80 points? Tavares puts up points but I would much rather have Reinhart and everything he does, especially in a playoff series (cue Colts “Playoffs?” Video) The Drury comparison is pretty solid. Not a top offensive centre but a super important one for team success.
