The constant use of the 1st round draft pick to fill the current hole always bothers me. The guy probably won't play for a year, and he probably won't be a valuable contributor for 2. So just try and get - good hockey players. Also - goaltending, we're just consistently poor here.

Botterill... the gift that keeps on giving...

Dahlin needs to be a lot better. If the hall move to the staal cozens line is permanent, i'd personally like to see skinner with eichel and reinhart. Oloffson can still get his PP1 minutes and play with sheahan and lazar. Send okposo to the press box, or figure out a way to get him on LTIR for the balance of the year so you can buy him out. Maybe he's just getting his feet under him with the limited offseason but he looks like john scott out there.

Based on cap hits? Seabrook/Toews (not sure on toews LTIR cap hit), Shattenkirk/Lundqvist/Deangelo I get not wanting to have like 8 buyouts on the books - but the 800K for cody hodgson isn't exactly hamstringing the team at the moment. This: https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/kyle-okposo looks appealing to me, if he doesn't hit permanent LTIR. Lower cap hits for 2 years and 2 years with a million dollar charge that replaces the 800K for hodgson. Get it done this offseason, the guy can't play. Skinner on the other hand has a fair amount of years left so its pretty much impossible to trade/buy out. He's still playing alright, he's still creative - he's just not finding the net at the moment.
-
Considering how much they traditionally start in the dzone too - those bottom numbers are even better. Okposo has been a gaping hole on the ice to me. Just messing up transition, poor fore/back check, never in the right place, and his passing is terrible.

Green Jelly - I'm sure theres some 20 second clip from three little pigs we could use. (They're from Kenmore, and not the googoo dolls)

Play-in tournament is smart. If you have to cut the season short you have that built in plan.

Sabres Sign 2020 First Round Pick Jack Quinn to ELC
Drag0nDan replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Any chance he makes the roster? Or is he headed straight back for juniors? -
They're not bad movies - they're just not... bond movies?

Tommy Gunn is by far the worst opponent - rocky is totally washed at that point. Creed was undefeated, undisputed heavyweight champion and a showman like Ali. Clubber Lang was basically a knockout machine like Liston. Drago was a juiced up Russian machine representing the entire USSR. Rocky V does have those 2 great lines after tommy punches Paulie... Not sure its enough to redeem a bad forgettable movie though.

Report: some owners favor NHL shutdown if fans aren't allowed

Then they played like 1/3 of a season and all lost a ton of money. -
Killing time: how do we fix the worst penalty killing in the NHL?
Drag0nDan replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I mean so many teams are running different 1-3-1 plays. And our d would get caught chasing too often - cross ice pass and its an open net. They'd also occasionally just get it, fake the cross ice pass and fit it in shortside since ullmark struggles there. So... whatever you can do to kinda prevent open shots from the circles. -
Buffalo had a terrible PK, and the 4th "energy" line always seemed listless so... probably covers 2 things there.
-
I don't know how they'll set up the first and second PP units, but i think there will be an even greater boost to the 2nd unit. Not sure who will play where, but I'm relatively hopeful in improvements from the Mitts/MoJo/sheary group to today. You have hall+Jack+maybe VO on line 1 PP, line 2 can be skinner+sam+staal/Cozens. I just want that 2nd group to be able to gain the zone and sustain some pressure. I'm interested to see who plays on jacks other wing at even strength, but i think they like VO for those cross ice 1 timers.

I just read something saying only if its greater than 4.5 mil. But I didn't read the CBA so someone would have to confirm 1.4 for 3 years though. If he's even remotely adequate, years 2/3 can be a huge bargain
-
Walk away rights aren't available on players awarded under 4.5 mil. Does anyone have ideas where buffalo and kahun want to be? How far apart are they?
-
What would the estimated arbitration award look like? If they qualify him and can't find an extension, are they bound to that award?
-
It sounds like KA didn't want to play the arbitration game. The open market contract he gets will probably be less than a possible arbitration award too. He never would've signed the QA, but Kahun might be playing with fire here. On the plus side if they lose him- They literally used 0 assets to acquire him.

Sabres Move Up to 34, Select John Jason Peterka
Drag0nDan replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Yep - everyone said when buffalo traded for diggs that they moved 4 picks. But in reality they had already added 2 picks in 2020 with the teller trade, and moved 1 of those and 1 of their own. The pick they moved in 2021 is a 4th, but they moved zay jones for a 5th - so they have the same number of picks. The lack of minor leagues helps in the NFL too since fringe players can be moved prior to cut day for picks. -
The experts have been wrong before. The projections have been wrong before. 2012 - yakupov and reinhart... woops. 2013 - Lots liked Drouin over Barkov, most had him over lindholm and monahan. 2014 - Bennett 2015 - Strome Regarding analytics in the words of Mac from it's always sunny "Science is a liar... sometimes"

Sabres Move Up to 34, Select John Jason Peterka

I look at it like, a draft board is constructed based on where you value them. If they have a first round grade on this kid, then they value moving up to secure him rather than just selecting the next highest player on their board. It makes sense if you especially value him significantly more than the next 5 guys on your board. -
Oh I meant rossi. But who knows. They're 19 year old kids
-
I don't know any of these kids. I did think it was nice to hear that in the 6 month layoff this kid focused on strength, endurance, and skating.
-
The misleading part in that d-1 number is where quinn played when he was like 16. The unconventional development path kinda makes it hard to evaluate with those conventional projection metrics. They're just about the same age, but quinn has about 2 years of like - serious junior hockey development. I probably would've taken Rossi too, but I'm not going to lose my mind here. I think the team has been soft has hell for years, and adding another player who likely isn't going to play with a lot of jam isn't going to help our cause here. Is the goal to get to the playoffs this year? Or to get there and actually do something?
