IMHO, Miller was very good here. He stole games where the Sabres were shelled. He let in the odd soft one in, but my perception was that it was far and away the exception than the rule.

For some fans, 12-5 will merely be an "OK season."

Good question. I also question the wisdom of breaking up the season. The only reason that I can think of is that they figure more people will watch because they will already be engaged in hockey mid-season.

I need to remember that the Sabres were 2 points above 7th in the division. It could be that the team improves, but bounces for other teams go better and we land in 7th with a better record.

I can understand this metric. I have moved from boredom to disgust to bemusement to not being bored to eventually being entertained most of the time. When it gets to anticipating a game, I know normal is back.

I feel it is important to reiterate that I has read that the Sabres were on Monahan's NTL. IMHO, we should not take this too seriously as Sabres fans unless you think it would have been worth Terry's while to fly to Calgary in a private jet to convince him otherwise. (I do not, if that sentiment is not immediately obvious.)

I think the team is more talented, but that is somewhat mitigated by several players being less experienced. Comrie should be a big improvement over Tokarski. Anderson will regress some more. How wil we feel if, as I expect, Pekka-Lukkonen and even Subban get significant playing time? If I compare the roster to the end of last season, Lyubushkin is an upgrade at 3RHD. Quinn and Peterka are definite upgrades in talent, but their youth will mean increased mistakes as they learn the NHL game. Overall, they have a sizable improvement in talent traded off with less experience. They should be better overall in goal, but Anderson will continue to slide.

Update: I have has to do a lot of long, long overdue work on the house with the Erie County Health Department and the Town of Amherst overseeing it. It was so bad that, essentially, I called out myself and my wife. Because of this, Sally is not getting the training she needs. We are looking into friends taking her. Aside: our house has had no real maintenance in 20 years because of our work and our general lack of handiness. My sister and brother-in-law are recommending abandoning it, losing our 6 cats and Sally, having it condemned, and starting over. I screwed up my rolled-over retirement in 2019 by working for a start-up and will be using my mother's inheritance for the maintenance. My family think this is throwing good money after bad. I can't give up and would rather cram 20 years of maintenance into 1. Sorry to unload like that. I needed to vent somewhere. I feel awful about the house and about Sally.
