Both my parents were brought up under British rule. My favourite TV shows are almost all British. I am a licenced Beatle-ologist. My friends offered me choices of which surviving Doctors and Companions I wanted at my table at their wedding receptions. (They are many of the reasons that NuWho routinely has references to Buffalo, NY.) It is just that ingrained.

I saw those comments. That is why I am becoming increasingly convinced that the only moves GMKA will make are for mid-range UFAs on D and G. Levi is apparently required with sweeteners for a goaltender because he is not established. Cozens is needed for an established defenceman because the Sabres only have 2 potential top 4 D in Dahlin and Power. If those are the asks, then IMHO, then the 3-headed monster of Levi-Comrie-UPL is better than even money for next season.
-
Except for us getting Owen Power, right?
-
Interestingly, Mogilny learnt defence that year. I remember a 1-0 Vancouver loss to Detroit where Mogilny was 3rd star after the two goaltenders on merit for his stellar defencive play. I remember thinking that my ears must have had too much wax in them.

Correct. The Sabres in the top 30 were Hajt, Ramsay, Schoenfeld, Luce, and Gare.
-
Retired no later than 1987. Luce was 22nd.

You offer is at my high end.

OK. I underestimated Hart. I did not realise the played as well as he did. A 1st and a small add work for for me.

This is 1987; too early for Peca. It was not Schoenfeld, who was 20th. In fact, of the top 30 retired players in 1987, 5 of them were Sabres. For the era 1967-2001, every team (except 1) which was top 5 in adjusted +/- during any 10 year block won a Cup in that time and no team won a Cup who were outside the top 8 at the time. Yes, the Sabres are the exception again.

OK. Thanks. One of the earliest and simplest analytical tools for studying defencive and two-way play was adjusted plus-minus, i.e., a player's plus-minus relative to his team's average. In 1987, the top 2 retired players for career adjusted plus-minus were Bobby Orr and Bobby Clarke. What former Sabre was 3rd?

Legitimate question: which UFAs for G and D should the Sabres target if the other GMs are like fans who think that the Sabres' immovable assets (e.g., Levi for a G, Cozens for a 2nd pair D) are required to get anyone because "the Sabres can afford it"? Addendum: this strikes me as plausible because of the price Armstrong insisted for Chychrun and because other GMs may infer that because the Tank Fruit are opposing each other in the Finals, then Pegula will press Adams to make moves to appease the most negative, erm, vocal fans to push for the playoffs and make inferior trades just to make a move. In this case, there may be no deals to be made and Adams will need to exclusively go with UFAs.

Just a question for the oldsters here: who did radio for the Sabres in 1970-1, the year before RJ joined?
-
The broken nose is why nobody dared to challenge him again. I defer to @French Collection.

Your hint about the players being keys for the Flyers cut the options down. They were not going to be Orest Kindrachuck, Ross Lonsberry, or anyone similar.
-
Both were mentioned on, I think, NBC during game 1 of the 1974 final -- the Flyers were playing Boston. I definitely remember Reggie Leach being one of them. I can't recall the other.
-
I disagree with you on the first point. I need 2 potential playoff runs to consider the acquisition a non-rental. JMO. We probably should mention these things when we talk about acquisitions like Hellebuyck.
-
What his expected cost?
-
No one I can think of is as reliable or on a comparable contract. Honestly, though, I think he would be like Teppo Numminen for this group. And I think we need someone like that.
-
If so, Dahlin is like his teammates in leaving money on the table. That speaks to a better mentality towards ensemble play and a more selfless attitude on the team. Now, if we learn team defence over this summer, we will real draw a contrast between our core and Toronto's Core 4 forwards.

Roger the Dodger as a rookie in a losing effort for Detroit.
-
Honestly, if the officiating keeps up like this, I expect Florida to decide that if they are going to get over-penalised anyway, then they will make sure to "earn" the penalties. This is what happened a lot during the goon era.

Calling it now: 2028 NHL Winter Classic will be in Buffalo

Again, only if the Sabres are good and agree to have a home game in a bigger market. -
So much this.

He hurt the biggest name on the opposition in a big and non-traditional market. What did you expect? It's not like it is Buffalo, Winnipeg, Minnesota, etc.
