I am glad someone else looks at these criteria as well. In draft guides, I almost never see these mentioned -- particularly the age thing.

Phil Housley hired as an Assistant Coach for the Rangers
Marvin replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
On paper, with the first line-up, the GM should be thinking that he has a decent team, barring injuries and assuming the goalkeeping is normal after Hutton's surgery. Once Eichel is out, Hall checks out, and Staal stalls, what you have left at forward is pretty grim because of the lack of depth. And no GM who does not cheat the salary cap can survive his 1C missing over half the season like that team. But I would have worried about XHCRK's system and handling of the line-up. Aside 1: This is why I evaluate off-season moves in 2 stages: first, on paper, was the thinking sound; then, on the ice, was the analysis correct. Aside 2: One point of fact that we don't harp on enough with this era is that XGMJB badly hurt the team when he signed Hutton. If you give the Sabres decent goalkeeping in Housley'e tenure, maybe the result is not so toxic. Aside 3: One big reason that I am dead set against trading Mittlestadt is that a solid playoff team needs someone from the 3rd line who can fill in competently on the top lines for an extended period. Similarly, I would like Krebs around to fill in higher in the line-up if need be. -
Hannu Virta would count from North America, but he had a long career in Europe.

That offer for Saros looks about right. You might need to send UPL too.

One of my criteria for a Hall-of-Famer is that his actions on or off the ice changed the game. By defecting and being effective, I would definitely put Mogilny in.

According to Pierre Lebrun, Sabres have interest in Brett Pesce.

For an extended Pesce, that is way too light. The more likely idea has something better going Carolina's way. -
Kevyn Adams and Jerry Forton Pre-Draft Presser, 6/21/2023

I agree with this. I also think that GMKA looks at his Cup ring and the sobering mediocrity of the last few Cup-winning goaltenders and thinks that luck is the only thing that matters in goal in the playoffs. -
In the eyes of most voters, Vernon is more impressive than Hasek because he has more Cup wins because 1 win was against Roy and he has a 2nd one besides. Not only did I know that Ryan Miller has better stats than Vernon by raw numbers, but I have stats for Vernon against his contemporaries and normalised by era with a 5 year moving average through 2012-3. Vernon was very good in 1989, but his career stats are merely above average and Miller is still better. Look at it this way: in spite of the long-term evaluation decidedly flipping the opposite way, Bill Barber is in the HHoF over Rick Martin. That is due to who won in 1975 and the goodwill that Bobby Clarke gets for breaking Yakushev's ankle.

That explains it.

He won a Cup in Calgary, right?
-
In 1999, _The Hockey News_ had an article on first line and second line players of the decade. Rick Martin was 2nd line LW of the 1970's.

Sad, but true. -
Tom Barrasso gets in for back-stopping the Pens to 2 Cups. He was better after being traded. IMHO, that was because he did not play against Boston as often.

Speaking of 3-headed monsters in goal, Does Mika Noronen count?
-
My memory of Dick Duff in Buffalo is at best hazy. Ramsay and Hajt spring to mind.
-
His omission still baffles me.
-
Whom does he replace Olofsson and Hinostroza with?
-
Turgeon and Housley being in the HHoF ahead of Mogilny just baffles me.
-
I find we are at a 4H club: Hasek, Hawerchuk, Horton, Housley. Perreault, Andreychuk. These are all of the obvious ones.

You mean that place with the Carrot Festival that Bugs Bunny was going to in "Bully for Bugs"?

Welcome back!

🤣 Well, now I know where some of the most delusional Sabres trade ideas come from.
