  1. There is a difference: Tuch wears his Sabres fandom on his uniform and is one of the kinds of players that the Sabres need more of.
  2. I guess the Sabres wouldn't cave on the 2nd year.
  3. Finally.
  4. Raise your hand if you would have said 3 years ago that Jeff Skinner would be used at the end of the game to protect a lead. Oh, put them down, you liars.
  5. That depends on how much you think the roster holes are his fault. I don't know.
  6. I think fans of McDermott need to accept the mere possibility that he is like Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay, who turned a joke of a franchise into a good team, but can not get the same team to the next level because of his own limitations and blind spots. Once you accept that, then you should see why the calls for his ouster are not just knee-jerk reactions to yesterday's loss. He might eventually win it all, but it will not happen in Buffalo.
  7. To whomever said it in one of the other threads: you were right -- given the absence of Greenway and Girgensons, I would probably feel a bit better about the bottom 6 if Rousek and Biro were up instead of Rosen and Kulich.
  8. Just curious. Last year, the Sabres were unusually lucky with injuries to the forwards. If they had been merely above average in injury luck (say, 12th), how many fewer points might they have had. I would be much obliged if someone could do the analysis. Honestly, going into this season, I would like to think that management planned for the current level of injuries.
  9. The Eagles are now 5-0 with Sean Hoculi's crew officiating since their new management came in. Two missed FG. A missed horse collar and an bogus intentional grounding on the same part of a play. Wasting a time out "icing" a kicker. Most kickers say that it helps make the kick set-up and timing feel like practice. Not trying anything with 20 seconds left. 3 steps is not a reception. The only thing a prevent defence does is prevent you from winning. There are so many reasons for this loss that it makes me wonder how good the team would be with better situational coaching in general or another officiating crew today in particular.
  10. Regardless of the outcome, I want McDermott to go ape$#!+ on the officials in the post-game. It turned virtually every neutral viewer into a Bills fan today.
  11. Even higher quality depth players would have been welcome. Just enough veterans to keep the kids in Rochester when the inevitable injuries hit. Of course, I said that last season.
  12. As an overall change, GMKA needs to recognise that he has drafted too many of the same type of player and that throwing said players to the wolves can be a painful process. He also needs to recognize that most of the youngsters are not NHL-ready. Most importantly, he needs to make hockey moves with his prize picks to acquire players with different skill sets and temperaments. Whatever their flaws be, Stillman, Clifton, Greenway, and E. Johnson were moves in the right direction, but he needs to make more changes with the NHL roster and with the development pipeline to balance them out.
  13. I figured that veterans who play with the attitude of Okposo and Girgensons could be had. A few years ago, maybe they needed to sign a goaltender for an extra year with extra pay. They have needed either veteran skaters to help cover for the inexperienced goalkeepers or a veteran goalkeeper to cover for the inexperienced skaters. Over 3 offseasons, that seems reasonable to me.
  14. I am with you. The kids again are being put in the line-up a year too early. I hope it works, but I have my doubts. See Krebs, Payton - Development of.
  15. You don't remember Rocky Farr or Gary Bromley, do you?
  16. Lindy is considered to be one of the best in-game coaches in the league.
  17. We found that out last year with DesLaurier's "goal" by the Islanders. If that one was a goal, then this one is too.
  18. The last one is Ristolainen. What are the other two? This has to be Hasek and Fuhr.
  19. Thanks, but the problem is that I don't know how to it on my phone. I am a rank amateur in working my phone.
  20. Welcome back. I remember taking my wife to the Arena to watch the first Winter Classic and the pre-game and breaks in action were so filled with Crosby ball-washing that she exclaimed at the start of the first commercial break, "I haven't seen anything with Pittsburgh yet this year and I am already sick of hearing about Sidney Crosby."
  21. I don't know how to copy a YouTube link to put into a post, so I figured that letting you know which user posted the video would help.
  22. I have not seen many goals yielded by the Sabres where the goaltenders clearly goofed. Certainly, the rate of bad goals this year is less than it was last year. But I see a lot of saves by other teams where I am asking myself, "why don't the Sabres ever get that save?" Yes, I know that is unfair. IMHO, you can argue successfully that I should not expect more from young goaltenders. IMHO, you can successfully argue that given the overall youth in the skaters, you should expect that the chances against the goaltenders are a bit above the league average. Usually, the GM tries to get established netminding with young skaters to cover up some of their mistakes. Alternatively, you can cover for young goaltenders with a veteran team that plays a tight defencive system. The Sabres are going about their team building in a way that is very rarely tried because there are so many more variable.
  23. .900 is the current standard for mediocre goaltending. That is not even average.
