If he is exposed in the expansion draft, I expect Seattle to take him.

I mentioned somewhere else that the coach needs to get the players to execute the prerequisites to hockey 101 (attention to detail, accountability, execution of fundamentals). If that doesn't happen, then nothing else matters. I actually have a preferred system for the current line-up, but because I have less hockey knowledge than Kim Pegula, I will refrain from expounding on it here.

Sometimes you hit gold with those prospects. According to some friends of mine in Vancouver (science fiction fandom has a large reach), Mike Peca was a "B" prospect who was projected to be a "feisty fourth liner." You can hit gold with mid-level players too. Remember the chortling from the hockey world when the Sabres elevated a "mere supporting player" named Chris Drury to future leader? That is my hope: the right targets. The one thing about GMKA's make-up which I like is that he should recognize players like himself.

My sources have this answer. The Pegulas are worth a LOT more now than they were 18 months ago. However, they are less liquid and are husbanding their resources to hold on to the very profitable holdings they have -- not just the Bills. The speculation on this board on the places where their liquid assets have gone is, on the whole, accurate. Apparently, they are waiting for NYS to fully open up before returning to quasi-normal with the Sabres. Currently, they and many other owners are staring at up to $100M in losses this season. We don't have to like it (if there was a problem with liquidity, why sign Taylor Hall?), but this is my reconstruction of their thinking.

My vote was just to sign off. The Pegulas should use their connexions to make sure that there aren't skeletons in the closet, like spousal abuse. After that? Nothing. Take the following as you will. My information is that RK is whom GMJB actually wanted instead of Housley. I heard rumours from two sources that one reason that GMJB did not help Housley during the slide after the winning streak was in part to undermine him to try and bring RK in here. While I am thinking of it, I put up with 17 years of incompetence from RCW Jr and the first few years of the Pegula reign. Maybe because there are fewer NFL games did the bad years seem less painful. This is not objectively as bad, but it feels worse. Any ideas?

Why does everyone think the coach from Providence, Nate Leaman, is for whom we are waiting? I don't have any evidence aside from Sabres boards about him being the next coach. And if they are waiting for him, it could be another month yet before he comes loose.

We went into the last bunch of off-seasons with one of the largest scouting staffs in the league. It is probably good for my sanity that I am having a hard time imagining what "significantly worse" looks like.

I can imagine what TP thinks of this. We had an enormous scouting staff for years and have almost nothing to show for it. Prove to me that this works first. I don't have a rejoinder for that.

There are also limits on how you can allocate that time. For instance, I recall that "travel days" can't be rest days...but they are useless for practise. Ralph may be a bad coach, but that break from COVID-19 exacerbated the problems and super-magnified every problem he and this team have. Moreover, because NJD suddenly couldn't score on a soccer net either after that hiatus with Buffalo, I figure that the hiatus was a killer for both teams: they were already rusty and then had a 2 week stoppage on top of it to lose whatever chemistry they had. The difference is, we could deal with just an interim coach right now. I don't care if it is Matt Ellis, Ted Nolan, or Pete DeBoer -- just get RK outta here. Just his presence is undermining the team.
