If our youngin's hit all their ELC bonuses, it would be the best news since before The Tank.

Fixing the Sabres Long-Term - Can it be done?
Marvin replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
What I am hoping is that GMKA has enough self-awareness that he can convince T&KP to pay for some help in his office. I also hope that the quality of play we are getting out of our youth will entice a good coach here. IMHO, the organisation finally is set-up properly to improve consistently without asking for anything magical or outrageous for a bit if we get the right Coach and AGMs.. Hiring them gives credibility to the franchise in the eyes of the league and, most importantly, in the eyes of the players. That would help immensely with keeping Ullmark for starters. -
Official Jason Karmanos Hired as Sabres Associate GM

God, do I want this to happen now... -
Holy cow.

Welcome to the board! Hall is an expensive supplemental player. He want the top money without the responsibilities. The Bruins can afford that luxury; the Sabres cannot.

If there were a draft where I just wanted a few extra darts to throw at the board, this year's is it. On the other hand, I would move a couple in hockey trades which would give me more _next_ year.

Assuming that our forwards next year are Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart, Ruotsalainen-Cozens-Olofsson, Asplund-Mittlestadt-Thompson, Girgensons, and Okposo *and* that the Alternative Minimum Tax Line on your 1040A, erm, Asplund-Mittlestadt-Thompson is at least passable the rest of the way, I would be looking for just solid 2-way players for the forwards and swapping the odd part for a better fit. For instance, is there a Centre for Girgensons and Okposo where I can get their defencive acumen and 40 goals? I need solid goaltending on defence. For the first time in a decade, I like how the team looks on the forwards.

Does the acquisition of Bjork result in help going down to Rochester?

Can we put SportsNet and Eklund on "ignore"?

Alternatively, can you believe we got a 2nd round pick for Taylor Hall given the way he played this year? And a NMC with it to boot. After his stint here, I now agree with a friend who said that Hall is a great secondary piece for a good team but a bad primary piece for anyone. Hence, I think Boston will love Hall. He will be a secondary scorer on a team with a lot of talent, albeit a bit old.

Ruotsalainen is with Cozens, I presume? Olofsson may find a game with R2 and Cozens. I don't know why, but that seems better for him than Reinhart and Eichel. If so, this might be our best forward line-up in 10 years. The question then becomes how do the D and goaltending look after the expansion draft? Is Ristolainen still here? How about McCabe? Where is Linus?

Let us turn this around. Hall has minimal playoff experience. He is not a leader. He has put up assists, but he has often been flat out bad. He seems to lack "intangibles." You are another GM. What are you offering? 2nd and a project is about my high end. No 1st without unloading a long-term cap dump. No high-end prospects. I don't like this trade. I personally would have taken less to keep Lazar -- that would have driven Cody Eakin out of the line-up. But I have a hard time seeing Hall as worth more. The other "comparables" all have him beat on most criteria aside from points.

We should have an analogue to a baby birth prediction pool for when we trade Hall.

Sabres have made it a Top Priority to Re-Sign Linus Ullmark per Friedman
Marvin replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
One reason to keep him is he might be more apt to stay after playing with the kids if the current improvements continue. I do not want to hunt for a goalie yet again. -

When I see something like, "better, stronger, faster..." I always default to the $6M Man. -
Remember 2006-7 when the Sabres had Connolly and Afinogenov ready to return early in round 1 and the NHL said there would be a cap penalty if they played before round 2, so we had to trade Biron and forced to play them in the last 2 games? This is fecenine.

I like what they have done under Granato. However, we need to see how they play the rest of the season against the Capitals (1), Islanders (2), Penguins (4), and Bruins (6). That's quite a gauntlet with only 1 against the Flyers and 2 against the Rangers. I have the following criteria: 1. No blowouts or getting massively outplayed. This means winning 2-1 while getting outshot 45-15 is not acceptable -- even though that result is preferable to losing an even game. 2. Defence: Improved defencive awareness by everyone, but Dahlin and Jokiharu in particular. This is both in the zone and on the rush. 3. Offence: more consistency in general. Aside from getting Skinner back to scoring semi-regularly, Olofsson to improve at even strength, and a better power play, I want to see better decisions away from the puck when we have possession. 4. Continued improvement in execution. I want the passing to get better. I need better recognition of the opposition's players -- I hate that sometimes no one on the ice is aware of the trailer on a rush or the back door set-up. I want to see better reads to maintain pressure in the offencive zone and greater disruption of the opposition in the defencive zone.

Irwin-Eakin-Reider looked more like an NHL line than anything with Hall and Staal playing together. There is just more life in this team from more places in the line-up. I don't get angry and depressed watching games any more. It makes the night that much better. -
