They have defined and distinct roles. And until someone proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that that’s not the case. I’ll go by that very safe and likely assumption.

This is a Skinner thread. Not and Eichel thread. Not a Dahlin in 2 years thread. And not a decade contract. you see, if you claim a big fat contract does that to a franchise, then It does that for all franchises and all big fat contracts. Not just ones a fan labels worthy of the “millstone” description.

I would say the majority of long term expensive signings, in the end, turn out “bad”, especially for those that end in their mid to later 30’s. But the vast majority of that time of those long term contracts are not regrettable. So most likely the vast majority of time of Skinners contract will not be regrettable. But the last 2-3 years could could could very well be. So does that automatically = “screwed” Hell no! His payment schedule is $5 mil. in year #8. And as the cap continues to climb ... 5 mil. will be much easier to swallow then.

I can see a #2 center. Sure. But with the influx of talent in the minors, I don’t know if hitching our horse to another expensive top 6 winger is prudent or wise.

Would you consider Pegulas funding HarborCenter, “on the hockey side” since they like um, play hockey there. That’s worked out very nice. Would you consider Pegulas giving the green light to Tank for three years so we can acquire higher end draft picks, a poor choice? Having Reinhart, Eichel, and Dahlin on the team is pretty damn good. AT THE TIME Bylsma and Housley were very very sought after candidates for HC. They were both interviewed by more than just Buffalo. And after losing out on Babcock, With the help, blessing (or direction) of Pegulas, Sabres landed them. And hindsight is always so conveniently 20/20, and it didn’t work out. Accomplishing the acquisition is pretty impressive. I’m not disagreeing that Pegulas have made poor choices, but “everything” isn’t close to accurate.

Very true. I posted the link a few days ago, for posters like him to learn and educate themselves on how Reinhart makes those he plays with more effective and productive. Obviously he decided to stay obtuse. Or he decides to pick out other things because he has no logical retort to the data presented. It’s a shining example of being set in your opinion despite evidence punching you in the face. It says a lot. I’d like the Reinhart haters to post the “perfect” player and I bet the rest of the board can nitpick “faults” in his game too. Good grief.

I think his AVERAGE over the course of 8 years will be 30 goals. Some years he’ll get 25. Others 35. With injuries and slumps... 30 seems a reasonable average for 8 years. Especially if he has Eichel or another very good center on his line.

Averaging less than 25 goals a season? I’ll say over. Probably in the neighborhood of 250.

I wonder how restrictive (if there is one), his NTC/NMC is. Well, hopefully we won’t regret the first 5 years of the deal.

Needed upgrades: Two escalators on each side of the concourse. Wider corridors on the 300 level. Stronger, faster WiFi for better fan experience. Better, newer sound system. Graffiti proof bathroom stalls. The things guys write on the walls are so immature and sometimes very obscene for the little ones. Find a way to speed up concession lines. Better trained staff. Wanted but not needed upgrades: Lower cost concessions. More “combo” deals. Some healthy and veggie options. “Single serve” popcorn cups, Instead of bucket only. Newer video boards on the Jumbotron. Take a page from SJ, MTL, and LA and play better choices in music during stops in play. The Sabres entertainment director (if he/she’s the one who chooses the music) needs to get with the times or get fired. Lose the DJ guy. He falls flat, unmotivating. New PP song. It’s god awful. More local food fair. Mighty taco, Chefs, Paula’s donuts etc ...

IF there are no better options, he’s one of the better choices to TRY. But, he’ll need quality wingers. And if it’s tried, I hope it’s for a good chunk of games. Not just 3 or 4.
