  1. The Buffalo Sabres are back from the holiday break and will play the Boston Bruins tonight. The GMC Game Night pregame show begins at 6:30 p.m. on MSG. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on MSG and WGR 550. This is the second of four meetings between the Sabres and Bruins this season. Last meeting: Boston defeated Buffalo 3-2 in Boston on Nov. 21 Next meeting: Sunday, Dec. 29 in Boston The Sabres are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games vs. the Bruins; 1-6-3 at home. The road team has won six of the nine games between these teams in the last two seasons.
  2. I’m usually optimistic. But I can’t with this game. The gang had too much eggnog and cookies. 5-2 Bruins. Johansson, Vesey, or Joker with a goal.
  3. I just saved this post for future reference. We’ll see what this just turned 21 developing professional hockey player does in the coming years of his development. Because saying his game “won’t translate well” sounds to me like you don’t expect him to have a career in the NHL, OR you expect him to plateau and be a bottom player/#13 depth guy. My expectations are of a solid middle Six guy in the NHL. It just may take him years to get there.
  4. Experienced 2nd line center. Don’t count on Dylan “green horn” Cozens next season to be some answer. Kid will need 2-3 years at least before he’s a (assuming everything goes perfectly, and rarely does) legit option at 2nd line center. I hope he develops well. Grit on the bottom six. Not some meat head fighter. Although those are really a thing of the past anyway... Keep the Ullmark, Hutton combo for now with the hopes that UPL develops well and comes in for the 21-22 season to backup Ullmark. If Ullmark regresses, then rethink the duo.
  5. Binging on Master of None. I’m six episodes in. I think it’s pretty good. I want to like it more. Solid 6.5 out of 10. It’s missing something...
  6. From July 2019 ... July 2019 – Mattias Samuelsson is coming off of his first season in the NCAA. In 35 games played for Western Michigan University, he tallied 5 goals, 7 assists and 37 PIM. Samuelsson has worked on discipline as he took far fewer penalties last season than he did in his 2017-18 campaign with the USNTDP, but he still has work to do. Aside from discipline concerns, he is showing improvement in his overall game. Samuelsson has good positioning, solid physicality and decent hands. Even though he tends to be more of defensive defensemen, he will get involved in the offensive zone and will pick up the puck and attempt to spark scoring chances. The only issue with Samuelsson is his skating. When you watch the World Junior Summer Showcase game tape, you will see how sluggish and slow Samuelsson is at times. In addition, he does not utilize his outside and inside edges. Samuelsson needs to beef up his edge-work and work on his turns. While he does have some work to do skating-wise, his transitioning from forwards to backwards is quite solid. Josh Tessler Like his father, Mattias is a big defenseman (6’4”/220) who does not shy away from laying his body into opponents. After getting into the US National Team Development Program, he added around 22 pounds to his body. “When I arrived, I was just skin and bones” he said to NHL.com in November 2017. Aside from his big frame, Samuelsson has developed his game with the puck and improved his skating, given his size. The left-handed blueliner is mostly praised for his ability in the defensive zone, but is getting more and more involved in the offensive side of the game, picking up twelve points (including five goals), during his first year with Western Michigan University which ranked him third-best among the team’s defensemen. After serving as captain for the United States at the U18 WJC in 2018 (where his team ended up with a silver medal), just like in last years WJC, Samuelsson will get another big role in the upcoming season as he is slated to get a ‘C’ sewn onto his jersey at Western Michigan. Given his continued development in the NCAA, where he made strides in his game overall last season, he looks like a potential top-four defensive defenseman, just like his father. Like all prospects, he’s a work in progress. No big deal. Some try so hard to Dig up any “negative” or “concerning” sentences when it comes to developing young prospects Any perceived weaknesses are absolutely nothing to worry about at this early stage of his hockey career. It would be great if he developed into a combo of his dad and Risto.
  7. https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/kyle-okposo#results That’s ugly. We need the cap space. Like ... every penny.
  8. Merry Christmas Sabres fans.
  9. Watch Bogo or McCabe be the one to tie it ?
  10. Eichel a little late getting back....
  11. Is the bench shortened yet? Vesey? nope just saw him

  13. Oh to pry Tkachuk out of Ottawa ... dreams dreams dreams
  14. What exactly are you and fans like you waiting for exactly? He’s exactly what he’s going to be. A very good (if not the best) passer on the team. An average skater (exaggerating fans like to say slow) . Sees the ice very well. Quietly gets his points. Did you know he got two points last game? It’s ok, neither does most fans when they look for fast flashy sick dekes from a top line player. He’s not gonna be a dominate line driver. He’s not gonna be a physical player. He’s not gonna wow fans with sick crazy goals. He’s the straw that stirs the drink on any line he plays on. Now, granted, he could be better in the goalzzz dept. for sure! But whether some care to admit it or not, he’s having a nice (key word) season points wise. He’s also the kind of player, that if he’s having an “off” game (like every single player has) its very noticeable. Thats my opinion for what it’s worth.
  15. Did RJ do the game Saturday? I was there and didn’t notice him in the booth. it seems like I haven’t heard him in 2 weeks.
  16. Meh ... I’m not gonna get worried about Mitts until he’s been in the AHL next season without a chance he gets called up because he’s plateaued that badly. Until then, I’ll just chalk it up to his development going much slower than I expected. He just turned 21. No need to have hard definitive negative opinions on the young man.
