None of them are worth what they’re paid. If they were, they’d be a lot hungrier and play a lot harder. Capitalism and market forces. Supply and demand. Only so many hockey players capable of playing an 82 game schedule at the NHL level. Owners, media money, franchise fees, corporate boxes, and season ticket sales fuel the ecosystem. None of it involves player desire or fan entertainment.

Thompson is not elite. Only paid that way.

Have to believe they have top draft prospects tested and assessed for those attributes. Comes down to Desire. Think multi year big money contracts with guarantees given to these kids kill desire in all but the exceptional professional athletes. The NHL and player agents are killing the golden goose.
