If Benson goes to the 3rd line with McLeod and Greenway how much scoring can we expect from that line?

Read that article this morning. It was fantastic. Articles like that are the biggest reason I keep my subscription. There are hundreds of places to see the X's and O's dissected but to learn about these guys and their backgrounds is eye-opening. I just have mad respect for guys like Benford who can lift themselves out of sometimes unimaginable circumstances and not only survive - but succeed.

If the guys we saw last night make up a good portion of the Amerks roster, that will no way be a small team in Rochester this season.

To your point, he is one of a very few prospects who has ‘the game’ to play on a classic 4th line - possibly a hybrid 3rd line down the road. Would be useful to have a 4th liner on an ELC vs. a vet with a $2mil AAV a couple years from now.

I’m with you 100% on acquiring Weegar. Fills a big need on the ice and in the room.

Thanks for posting the video @LGR4GM. A couple observations. First, the meetings of the 'hockey operations staff' (seemingly two separate venues) did not include Lindy Ruff. Thought that was notable. The second is a little more subtle. Helenius, Kleber and Ziemer all posted self-videos and all three said 'Let's get to work'. The first two came off sounding a bit perfunctory. Ziemer? That boy is ready to lace them up and get to work. I think we're really going to like this kid.

This is getting ridiculous. Laughable actually. Pretty soon Josh will be one of the lowest paid starting QB's in the NFL (until BB reworks his contract with an extension).

I don't recall ever being so conflicted (maybe not the right word) about what I've seen in that video. So happy that Kim is up and about. But good Lord that is at the same time very painful to see remembering her vitality prior to being stricken. Maybe my office is due for a dusting.

Someone please shed a little light on this for me because I'm confused (😳). So, the Caps bought the site only to shut it down? And are not keeping any of the folks who created and ran it? If so, what was the purpose in all this?

I think Helenius will be ready for 3C duty after 1 year possibly but most likely after 2 years (much depending on if he will be in ROC next season). McLeod has also played wing so 4th line may be his final destination. The Sabres will have plenty of time to evaluate him. Always good to have a winger who can be a capable C. Wouldn’t it be great if we have too much NHL talent in a couple of years. (If there is such a thing as too much talent).

I fully realize looking forward with prospects is always dicey. And we don't want to wish our lives away. But somewhere in the not too distant future a hybrid 3rd line of Helenius, Benson and Wahlberg could be a lot of fun to watch.

Interesting. I suppose the ‘contribution to the team’s results’ necessarily gets thrown out because he was traded? They surely couldn’t base it on his contribution to the Caps’ results. Could they??

Thanks for the insight Punch. Though it does raise my ire even more. I wrote this in another thread early this past season. If the Sabres were underperforming KA should have made the change at the break. Especially, now in hindsight, Lindy was available and the apple of Kevin’s eye. It would have given Ruff ~ half a season to evaluate the roster from behind the bench and in the room. Maybe more importantly, he could have started to implement his system on the fly last season and not early this season when a good start will be imperative. But KA was probably more concerned with not ‘doing DG wrong’.

I’m with @LGR4GM re: Wahlberg. Certainly it may be 2-3 years and we don’t know what he might become. But I do know he’s different in size and style than most of our top prospects. Both of which most of us claim the team needs more of. Regardless, I’m encouraged by the chatter around another top-6 add.

The way I see it, in a worst-case scenario* this gives the Sabres a nice two-year bridge to Helenius (1 in Finland, 1 in ROC) as a 2/3C. * McLeod gets no better and Helenius requires two years of development.
