I think it makes a tonne of sense to pick him if he's there. If i have read info correctly He would be ending his contract at the same time as poltapov. Settling them both in together for easier transition to NA. It could be likely that Novikov or any other D prospect could be ready for the Sabres so backfill would be helpful for pipeline.
