It’s the forecheck part that we didn’t do last time. After we dump it in we have to actually hit them and take the puck away.

I know that the team played poorly in front of him, I watched it. They should be able to overcome a 1 or 2 goal deficit against to any of those teams. Especially at home, which is a whole other problem. Do you honestly think the team rates the goals given up and then unilaterally gets deflated if the goal against was the fault of Anderson? But they don’t do that with UPL? I don’t really care who plays tonight. But using Anderson would not bother me at all. We need 2 points. UPL is just so inconsistent.

Curious. My wife wants to attend a concert there. She struggles with a lot of steps. Is getting in and out a big deal? Between thin air and arthritis in her right foot I am leery on taking her.

The whole team stunk in all of those games. If the Sabres are going to lay down against lesser competition than it does not matter. Don't blame Anderson for those 4 woeful team performances. The Sabres should skate them into the ground tonight but I suspect Philly will do things to prevent that, like they did the last game.

Every game is an actual must win now, maybe not mathematically, but we certainly need 2 points from teams below us in the standings. Expect the Flyers to play hard. They beat us the last game rather handily.

Maybe you go Andy tonight and do everything to get the 2 points?

I agree with you John. He is 23. Still in college, but old enough to not act like a freshman, or younger. Maybe he atones in the right way and this will be a turning point moment for him.

I know I will be looking forward to next year a lot. Love that we are in it and that the team is getting a positive experience this season.

I had this set when I was very young. Gonna say 1965. Metal. 6 team league. Plastic glass behind the net and a band of people around the rink. Puck dropper. Fully manual scoreboard. Goal lights. Between me and my four brothers we probably had about 5 different table hockey sets over the years. Plus another 2 or 3 air hockey sets. Electric football, Talking Football, Table basketball, table boxing, rockem’ sockem’ robots, ping pong, foos ball, pool, darts, jarts, horseshoes … -
He is not another VO where he scores 25 goals yet plays a -20 in 5v5 and has no physical game. He is not that. We need solid defense, help on PK, and a policeman presence. 15 goals and 30 points would be a ceiling.

I was around a lot of kids in youth hockey and in other sports. I’ve have seen and heard a lot. Problems with kids usually goes straight to patenting and/or home influences. I have tons of parents stories. (Shaking my head) You are just entering the ages where trouble could start. My advice - if you feel they are on track with grades and behavior that is great, still watch things closely, especially their friends, especially a sudden change in friends, especially if the changes look not good. Trust your instincts. Most kids go through a break away period and seek independence. My older one said “it’s different now Dad” 10,000 times. It is different, and it seems worse now to me.

Probably because he means what he is saying and he feels some level of responsibility for his kids actions. He must be embarrassed and irate with this kid. I did my dumbest stuff to others from 15 to 17 years old. My dumb stuff from 18 to 20 was much more inflicted upon myself. I have a hard time that these are the actions of a 23 year old. He must be immature for his age. I was out of college by then and into my career. Glad my alma mater eliminated his team too! I raised two sons. Great guys today, and they both needed a close eye and a kick in the azz at times when they were coming up.

They were not scared. They came back and scored the 4th goal to get a 2 goal lead. How is that scared? From there we need to shut them down. The terrible penalty leading to a 6 on 4 and the terrible underperforming PK were the difference. -
He was very noticeable on the moribund PK that gave up the tying goal. In fact, his man scored it. Overall he has been ok. I reserve judgement for now. I just hope he will play more aggressively than what we have seen so far. I still see a fourth liner, especially when Savoie and Kulich are ready.

I looked at the replay of the 4th goal too many times now. Prior to what the replay covers we lose a face off and fail to clear, the Caps work the puck to Ovi on opposite wing. Ovi shoots and UPL saves - maybe he can control the rebound, cover it, and get another face off- but he seems to get in position late and frantically steers the rebound to the corner instead. Looby gets to the puck first and he has Greenway on the wing, but he fails to gain control, the cap player (Backstrom) wins the scrum. Looby falls down despite being the bigger player, and then Backstrom gets control with Wilson’s help. It appears Wilson pokes it and sends it back to Backstrom behind the goal line. Looby does this a lot. He fails to get control and clear the puck too many times on the PK By now Wilson gets position a Greenway, Backstrom pass to Wilson wide open, Wilson high danger shot, UPL no chance. Tie game. The PK was supposed to be Greenways forte? Not tonight Lost face off, missed clear, big slap shot with big rebound to corner, Looby slow to loose puck and failed to clear, out battled in corner, Greenway loses position on Wilson, pass, shot, score. Lots of blame to share. We already know the goalies are not up to par, it’s more than that. When Adams looks at the roster he needs to look at the PK. If these guys can’t get coached up, then they need to be replaced. I personally think Looby is very poor as a PK defender. I’m betting there is miles of video tape to prove it. Slow to loose pucks, bad hands, not skilled at passing and clearing the puck. -

Look at his stats. GAA and Sv % indicate below average. He has played enough to believe the numbers. He had yet to make a shoot out save. Hence, he is below average. I am really not here to discuss UPLs development progress. Do you think he should have saved the 4th goal? Are you happy with the worst rated PK in the league? -
Would you have said it? I don’t think it’s contrarian enough of a statement after tonight.

Nothing I have said argues that UPL is good, or bad, or in between. The last goal was not on UPL. The PK failed to protect the lead, failed to win a draw, failed to clear the puck. The were 0-2 in regulation. They give up a PK goal every game. DG and his staff should be up all night looking at the last 50 PKs. They have to fix it. -

Sure. And UPL is not even average so far. He is easy to blame. Look deeper. The PK is last in the league. You just knew they would fail to clear, lose face offs, and allow another goal. -

Your logic does not work for me. The ref felt bad for calling one on Washington, so he “evened it up”??? Really??? Do you think he would say that??? I’ll bet $100 buck he wouldn’t . Not our problem if he called a bad call. You are not trained to call two bad ones in a row. Was it even the same ref that called both ? That is not how they are trained. The correct call was Irwin and Tuch, 2 minutes each for roughing. Irwin did everything possible to draw the penalty, instigate, rough, interfere. - and the ref fell for it. He didn’t even it up, he gave them a 6 on 4. We only had a 5 on 4. The ref should not EVER think of that stuff, his job is just call what is in front of him. Tuch deserved a penalty, so did Irwin. I am more made at at the damn PK, than Tuch, UPL, or the ref. They are terrible. Abysmal is more like it. Last in the league.
