  1. Buffalo did not actually draft Riley Hiedt, Minnesota did. They traded that pick (a 2nd round 64th overall), which came from Vegas as part of the Eichel trade, to Minnesota for Greenway. So we have Tuch, Krebs, Östlund, and Greenway for Eichel.
  2. Wow, I did not know they gave up so much for Jeannot. He had one 24 goal, 41 point season while amassing 130 PIM for Nashville in the season after Covid. He has been a minus player for Tampa. He fit the bill of good fighter that can also play hockey, but I cannot see Buffalo paying anywhere near that much for him.
  3. I sure can do better. My calling them rednecks was actually just as bad as you, who called my opinion an insufferable narrative.
  4. My opinion is what Gatorman responded to with the insufferable comment. Because I said I want cities like Buffalo and Vancouver to win a Cup over a franchise like Florida. That is my opinion. He called it an insufferable narrative. His opinion. Why are you even involved? Yes, the facts are Florida's attendance increased by over 6% this year and was one of the highest in the league. They had strong teams the two years prior, and they are just now selling out games consistently this year. Good for them.
  5. Yes it is. Disagreement is one thing, but it is even crazier when an opinion is called insufferable because its different than your own. Which is what happened here.
  6. Buffalo’s fan base is completely beaten down but still is more loyal and hockey knowledgeable than the rednecks from Sunrise, who didn’t even sell out many games last year after a Presidents Trophy the prior season This year they finally had a big increase in fan attendance, so it took three years of playing at the top of the conference for that to happen. Given the size if the Metro area, and the number of tourists and transplants, their fan base has been surprisingly slow to catch on. But for sure, right now have better attendance than Buffalo, and a much better team. To me, not a reason to pull for them at all. The complaints about McDavid winning a cup are even more insufferable. Jealous people calling him McJesus are beyond insufferable too. The panic by some here that NHL TV announcers will say even more nice things about McDavid is also insufferable. Listening to Florida’s hockey illiterate and rude fans talk and scream (while wearing their ball caps) during both Anthem’s, that too is insufferable.
  7. You are an influencer here at SabreSpace.
  8. I like Greenway and adding guys like him for a 2nd round pick are the kinds of moves we should be making. We needed a top 4 defenseman. I did not see enough from Byram to determine if he is the right guy but my first take is he is not. I worry about paying him big money, along with big money to Dahlin and Power. We will learn a lot about Byram this season. Shake up the Core, sure. But see Byram above. I am thinking in a LaFontaine/ Turgeon way. We now have a hole at center and really need a 1C/2C to fix it, unless Tage and Cozens both can consistently play like they did two seasons ago. We actually should add 2 centers since Krebs is still not there. Lindy likes guys that can play both Center and Wing. More accountability? Yes. That means you Adams. Skinner can be moved but not just to make room for a rookie. Girgs can move along too as long as we replace his production and experience with winning experience. The 24-25 Sabres really should look a lot different. Lindy will want a few more centers, one that wins draws. He will want more grit and and a true shut down line. He will probably want 7 defenseman that get the job done and include some intimidation on the backline, which we don't have enough of. I am tired of people hanging around UPL. As stated in anther thread, he will probably want a guy that will drop them without hesitation that the other teams have to be concerned about (and hopefully he can actually play hockey too).
  9. If Lindy the coach can get them to the playoffs then we will see Lindy somewhere in the FO once his contract expires. I have been saying for a while now that Adams needed to pick a HC that can help him build an NHL roster. One with NHL credibility and one that knows people all over the league. Adams has acquired the pieces to make a few big trades happen but he lacked the experience to pull the trigger on big hockey trades. Maybe now that will finally change.
  10. Pull yourself together. Florida came in rested and with the hot goalie, and they took a 3-0 lead. Stop blaming the refs and let this play out. If Florida wins it will be capping off a great run that started with a Presidents trophy two years ago, an unsuccessful SC final last year, and maybe a Cup this year. Great for them. If Edmonton wins it will be historic. The fact that they never gave up is a great story. McDavid is the best player in the NHL right now. There is not one GM/POHO that would disagree with that. If he leads his team to victory, while possibly setting up a playoff scoring record, then I see no reason not to enjoy the accomplishment. I want this to go 7 games. This is great for NHL hockey.
  11. While I agree with paying teachers more money to attract and retain better teachers, when I reflect on my school days, many of my favorite and more influential teachers were indeed the youngers ones. Not all of them, but certainly a lot of them stand out as I look back in time. These younger teachers were also the lower paid ones given the salary structure of NYS public schools, which favors time in the job and tenure. Public school teacher's pay is largely driven by time in the job, and not necessarily by their in class performance, or the standardized testing of their students. In the classroom the teachers energy, and passion for the subject, and their ability to stay current, is critical to good performance. I don't know if any of the later is measured and evaluated.
  12. Culture is not putting on a black tie and going to museums. Ugh. Don't confuse sight seeing for culture. Culture is about the People, their land and the traditions and way of life that come from it.
  13. I don't know about that. I see the opposite. Edmonton has been getting some level of scoring from all their lines. Two games ago we were looking at a sweep and the Talking Heads of Hockey were saying that the big names in Edmonton have to step up and that their role players were doing their part. Edmonton has impressed me with with their physical play against a team everyone thought could bully them. The injury to Barkov seems to have shaken the Panthers who are playing soft right now and letting the Oiler's come to them. Tkachuk is not himself either and Reinhart has had scoring chances and not cashed in. What we are seeing is the top players on Edmonton taking over and the top players on Florida folding up a bit. That could change again. This could come down to getting Barkov back or someone on Florida filling that void. Meanwhile McDavid is making a name for himself. If this goes 7 games McDavid could lead them to the greatest modern day comeback in SC History. I am enjoying this. As for who wins. I have no problem with Edmonton getting another Cup, a Canadian team winning is fine with me. Florida can remain in the group of teams that has never won it, along with Buffalo and Vancouver, two die hard NHL cities that are more deserving IMO.
  14. Oil get a PPG to go with the shortie.
  15. Oilers are playing a physical series.
  16. She missed some words at the end of the Anthem.
  17. You know there is much more to it. But toughness is one important part. We saw that Lindy did a very good job with the Devils, he didn't get fired because the game has not passed him by. He has to have enough left in his tank to elevate both the game and the mindset of the players that we committed to. The team could use a few tough players but they themselves have to be tougher too. Watching the Cup final, you can see that toughness is still a part of the game. We all know that Florida has a physical team, but I have never seen Edmonton play as physical as they have in this series. They may be losing but is not because they are intimidated.
  18. Yes indeed. It is nice when taxes actually lead to good services and help keep a community and its citizens in good shape. My wife has a family member that left Buffalo for greener pastures in Houston. Big mistake. He could not have picked a worse city at a worse time, and I will leave it at that. He is finding out that Erie County and NYS have much more to offer than he ever realized.
  19. The Staler was one, as in the tall Bank Building that was once the M&T bank. Go inside and tour it, have a drink at one of their bars, go to the top and see the city from a unique birds-eye view, etc.
  20. Buffalo housing is still “affordable “ compared to most medium to large US cities. The entire country has seen housing price increases. Supply, demand, interest rates, taxes, social factors, the cost to build new, are all in play here.
  21. Saranac has great memories for me. A long time ago. Lake Placid and Tupper Lake as well.
  22. The Cats had some bad luck, and they made mistakes (Montour played that goal all wrong), and they got swept up by the emption of the crowd. Oiler's avoided the sweep by finally finishing on some plays and getting some good fortune too. Panthers will need to play more physical at home to turn this around and finish them off. The Oilers are getting away with some borderline hits. I am surprised by the Oilers, they are much more physical than I thought.
  23. The Oil are cooking right now. Florida needs the next one. I did not expect Edmonton to be this chippy. They have been fortunate with non calls on their dirty (by todays standards) hits.
