Sabres acquire Forward Beck Malenstvn for 43rd Overall
Pimlach replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Could be a good player for Lindy. Joshua did not even become an NHL regular until he was 26. I not thrilled with this guy, I don’t even remember him in Caps games so I’m not defending the trade. But looking at the data and his usage, he might turn out ok. -

Why does it have to be one or the other with Greenway and Malenstyn? I like having both. Now add shut down center and you have one line that Lindy wants and needs. Keep Greenway and say goodbye to Zengus, Jost, Olofsson and Robinson. -

Why do you think Guelli is involved in any of this? His big job is to fix the roof and get the scoreboard in on time and working to spec (with no accidents). -
There may have been. Certainly KA was not impressed at all with the team culture and there were known "factions of friends" within the team. There are reports of young players and 4th liners being snubbed by Eichel and the cool kids. The team had no soul and you could see it on the ice. My channels always point to the road trip that Adams went on when Bots/Krueger were at the helm. He was not part of Hockey Ops yet he traveled with them and no doubt he did a detailed report to TP on what he saw and heard. Kruger was exposed as a fraud and Covid hit, and TP and KP started to worry about the finances and started streamlining the empire and cutting costs. Bots said he was not going to comply with massive layoffs, the EEE (under the cap) policies, and another rebuild. Goodbye Bots and hello Kevyn, the guy with almost no Hockey Ops experience but yet we trust. Eichel's injury and how to treat it was the easy out for everyone involved. Don't think that other players and agents did not see this. Lehner was already out there complaining about the team, the doctors, the culture, and he clearly thought he did not get good support from the team. You heard Eichel's interview after Buffalo beat Vegas on his return game. He certainly had bad feelings when he left.

Lets stop worrying about an overpay when we had 2 second rounders and we have more prospects than we can ever use. I get that overpaying for a 4th liner is not ideal but other GMs know what we have and Malenstyn is also just scratching the surface as a player. And there is backlog of more good prospects just from the recent two drafts. There is much more work to do and Adams needs move on from certain players and bring in some better players. You cannot change the culture by leaving everything the same. Get a few guys that have won and are not old and burned out. The Country Club of "guys that want to be here" must end. The saying "guys that want to be here" must end along with the ridiculous term "blockers". -

Or Clifton gets more gritty with Beck added and some top cover. They need another gritty forward, then they need a gritty top 4 defender. (Move Joker and even Johnson if necessary) pass the grit. -
Sabres Draft #14: Konsta Helenius, 5'11" 189lb Center

Everyone starts with a clean slate with a new coach coming in. He will say that jobs are open. -
I agree he should strike early and get who he wants. 5 more vet players to go.

So two moves by Tuesday evening.

Nice size, especially for the age, but that won't stop the "undersized Euro" cries.

Probably. Lets see what else they do.

Sabres Draft Pick #123: Simon-Pier Brunet, 6'2" RHD
Pimlach replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Yes, and I know what you mean. -
I was in a similar situation with clearances. No more. It feels good to not have to report so much stuff, keep all those records, and get those reviews and updates. 40 years of it is over.

Necas is still out there. He plays wing and center, something Ruff would like in his toolkit. Monahan is a good player too.
-
Nothing good came out of this until we actually see who is replacing him. Skinner is somewhat of a poster boy for the dysfunction of the Pegula era. Although there are many.

At first glance I thought the name was Simon Pure Burnet. Simon Pure was a very cheap WNY local beer. I remember my buddies and I buying it on sale for 99 cents a six pack, back in the mid 70's. You just needed a buck, and then find a nickel somewhere to cover the 6 cent tax, and you have a watery and tasteless 6 pack of beer. But it was beer. By contrast sale prices for Genny was about $1.39, Labatt's Blue about $1.79, and Molson's Golden Ale $1.99. -
We know that Adams is not going anywhere right now. However, another missed playoff could spell something different for him although he still believe he is safe under Lindy's 2 year deal. My question to you, don't you think Karmanos is ahead of Forton in the Organization ranking?

On the surface the data could say that. Malenstvn just might be better than his Washington fancy stats indicate though. He is one of our 4th line additions and a shutdown/PK player. Check one box. By my count there are 5 more boxes to go - 2 centers (replace Mitts, add 4C), a top 6 winger (replace Skinner), a RHD (add a physical top 4 guy), and another bottom 6 winger (Lindy wants a policeman). -

The idea to stay below the cap for so many years sent a message to the league alright. That cap savings was supposed to be to pay their homegrown prospects, but now Adams has figured out he can't win with a 24 year old lineup, so he is trying to do what other GMs have been doing all along. Which is to field the best team you can, always. Play to win. -
Sabres Draft Pick 42: Adam Kleber Defenseman 6’5” 207 Ibs

I liked his interview. From the video it looks like he can be a physical RHD too. I wish him well in NCAA and hope we can keep him. -

Did he actually say no to Buffalo or do you just think that? Did he have a NTC/NMC? As for the overpayment, I agree with you. If we can just break through this abyss, get to the playoffs and then be competitive, then good players would be willing to come here. Vets just want a chance to win, and they want to play in front of a big enthusiastic crowds. McDermott and Beane turned the Bills culture around in short order. The city is not glamourous but it has many positives, but being dedicated to winning has to be a priority. -

I will take the trade and not worry about value. We already saw Girgs, Rousek, Robinson, etc., in that role. I will give this guy a chance in hopes that Lindy/Apert sees something. Lindy said he wants a shut down line. Maybe this guy helps us get one.
