[Game Day] Easten Conference Quarterfinals, Game 3

ok, i'll chalk this game up as a learning experience for the boys. Tough road game usually means a loss. Fortunately, they go right back at it friday. If the sabres were to pick a game to lose, this one would be it. Now, they have to get off their and play hard on friday to keep the clinching game at home. The only big loss is teppo with an undisclosed injury. I guess rory gets his playoff cherry broken friday. With that said, The flyers came with everything, the sabres came at about 50% and it still took philly some stupid goals to win. I'm dissapointed that there won't be a sweep, but i was not expecting one. Those two victories in buffalo were for the ages. Just win on friday to send it back to the hsbc on nbc baby! -

I noticed that the shootout stayed on till the second the press conferences were over. Wonder if that's by design or by accident. -
Coverage starts at 7:00pm tonight on Directv channel 765, also on MSG locally and TSN in canada. Join us here, or in the chat room. Also, if you are not able to see the local coverage, you can listen live on the internet at http://www.wgr550.com in the live radio section. GO SABRES!

the chat room hit a new high last night... There were about 30 people at the peak, it was all clean, and some of us stayed on for the late games. I thought the board and chatroom would rosen though during the "centericegate" incident last night...

[Game Day] Flyers vs. Sabres - Game 2, 7:00 pm
Corp000085 replied to SDS's topic in 2005/2006 Season
8-2 final. Positives: We have to get 2 more victories in 5 games... time to remember to play smart heading to philly. Also, did the sabres play the best mind games you've ever seen against a goon team? They were just beaten up, sucker punched, and bitch slapped, but not once did they make a retaliation. Well, if you don't count the goals, that is... Also, the power play got rolling tonight. Now, the percentages weren't good, but that's what happens when the opponent takes 873j penalties. Individual player positives include all the goal scorers and lydman... way to step up toni. Negatives: We have to play this intent-on-injuring team at least two more times. I'm doing my best to not look ahead, but its scary that briere, dumont, etc. are one cheap shot knee on knee away from being done for the playoffs. -
[Game Day] Flyers vs. Sabres - Game 2, 7:00 pm

rookie... You see, if you're a 10 year college veteran, you learn to schedule your classes around the playoffs, like me. GO SABRES! -
My game notes/experience... I was in section 206, sitting directly behind jiri novotny, taylor pyatt and their girlfriends. pyatt told me that they were encouraged to present a businesslike attitude (i.e. no chearing or acting like classy sabres fans). I told them good luck and the game was on. the negatives: Lydman sucks. i'd gladly replace his sorry excuse for fitzpatrick on monday. Mckee also gave away a couple chances, but his positives definitely outweighed the negatives. The sabres also must find a way to beat esche. Hopefully losing in OT will do the mental magic on mr. confederate flag blocker on monday. We'll see... Dumont? What was he thinking? He had about 4 or 5 chances where he could have shot the puck and had a scoring chance but made a failed attempt at a pretty play to set up a scoring chance. JP, just shoot the friggin puck! The positives: 58 shots... can't really find a way to spell that positive out any clearer. You have to work hard and create chances to get 58. Hecht played great, so did mckee, and hell, everyone.. Mike Grier? People complaied about his lack of a scoring touch over the past month or so... This is why i'm glad that mike grier is a buffalo sabre. That was about the best game i could have imagined mike grier to play. He finished checks, moved the puck. Forced the flyers to pay the price. Miller... He made the saves when he had to. He got lucky on the goalpost shot in the first OT, but hey, you can't win 16 playoff games without luck. I'll take it. First playoff game ever, and it could have gone either way. Remember, this is the former mental midget of the Rochester Americans. Sure, he didn't get a shutout, and he let in a late goal (to which he had no chance at) but you couldn't have asked for a better performance. This team is primed and ready to go for monday. I just hope that the flyers backs are broken. They played a damn good game themselves, but the sabres out worked, out played, and out classed the flyers at every aspect of the game. Pretty humiliating if you ask me... GO SABRES ON MONDAY! wait, i forgot something... what was it? Oh yeah, THE HIT!! Personally, i thought umburger may have had a life threatening situation there for the first couple of seconds. I had my eye on the zamboni enterance for the stretcher. Campbell delivered a texbook, legal, open ice body check. Keep your head up, rookie. Welcome to the playoffs. Hitchcock made the comment that he's a-ok and good to go. That's playoff talk. I'll be willing to bet that umburger is done for the series. And, about pyatt and novotny? They were in awe over campbell. Even they were cheering for that one.

This Day in Sabres History :: April 19

I remember the nervous anticipation for game 6... I was very very nervous that things could unravel. We didn't really dominate in that series and i was fully expecting there to be a game 7... Then, i showed up at the arena... I can't remember what happens next though, hopefully PA will remember to do this date... for game 6. -
Rock, that was a game that really won't get you excited, even as a sabres fan... That was a game that you show your youth hockey children... The sabres simply played perfect. That, coupled with the canes folding up and dying lead to the 4-0 victory. If this game had any meaning to it for the sabres, it would have counted as one of the most dominating regular season games ever. Watch the game later rock... we simply took them to the clinic. Great game!

This Day in Sabres History :: April 17

we lose the series in 7 games... game 6 was the 4 ot 1-0 victory on a dave hannan backhand goal (which should have been dissalowed. wayne presley was in the crease). It was one of the greatest playoff games ever. Game 7 was a forgettable letdown victory by the devils. -
way to go on a limb... now be a man and predict how many total games they'll play. my bet is 25. Win tomorrow 4-2 in the ECQ 4-3 in the ECS 4-1 in the ECF 4-2 in the SCF
-
last pinned thread of the season... too bad we didn't make the playoffs... Oh wait, its april, not august. GO SABRES. With that said, i have absolutely no idea how this game will go. The #1 seed is on the table for the hurricanes, nothing to prove for the sabres. Will the sabres tank the game? Who's going to play in goal? If they tank, what will that do to miller? who knows... i guess i'll go 2-1 sabres in OT.

6-0 sabres. Total domination. Peters' golf swing was all the retribution that the sabres needed on tucker. Now, its time to have one final practice game before the playoffs start. Tuesday night will be a big night for carolina, so lets see if the sabres spoil the party. Miller was superb in goal tonight. Toronto actually got a lot of scoring chances and shots. Miller gave up nothing. He played the puck well, he covered up and didn't give the rebound. His defense helped him (gaustad taking out tucker when the puck danced on the goal line). He brought his A game. As for the rest of the team... Vanek was poor at times, but he did score a pretty goal. Drury is becoming very hot and very feared again. Campbell scored from the point. Afinogenov has a collection of broken ankles and jock straps from this game. Basically, the sabres played the very best all around game. They came on strong, didn't break when toronto came back in the 2nd, got timely power play goals, played good killing the penalty, and officially danced all over the maple fags. Peters' unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was one for the ages. If you didn't have a chance to see this game today, watch a replay on tsn or espn. It was great.

I encourage all to use the chatroom today. We had a big turnout last night. Of course, if you're behind a firewall, or java sucks for your particular computer setup, then use this game thread. However, the chats are very knowledgeable and interesting... Plus, there's always links to hot babes, and deputy jim brinson, floating around. http://www.sabresreport.com/chat

You can go either way on the anti-buffalo conspiracy theory. Whether you believe it or not, and whether its even true or not, there is a lot of evidence of anti-sabres calls in the bettman years of the nhl. You know all the evidence. Whether or not anti-team calls are leaguewide or just for the sabres, that's for someone else to debate. I'm a sabres fan first, NHL fan second... Don't get to watch many non-sabres games. I did catch the canucks/kings game last night. there were some obvious non calls, so i know that the reffing is consistantly bad. However, i've never heard of a team other than the sabres being jobbed so much in the past 15 years or so. Again, whether this conspiracy theory can be applied to all teams, someone else can answer that question. I'm a firm believer that if the sabres are to win the stanley cup, they'll have to get 16 wins against 4 teams despite the officiating, league office, and press releases, as opposed to the red wings, ottawa, etc. who just have to get 16 wins against four teams, period.
-
I bet peters dresses in place of vanek on the 4th line. rory in for teppo. I don't see much coming in terms of revenge. The league hates lindy ruff and the sabres, so if the team gives the league an inch, they'll take it. Peters will be there in case toronto starts anything. I doubt that fat pat will do anything though... he's looking for a new job next week. hate to make a bad impression.

what's "lol"? You see, i'm just a caveman. I lead a simple life in 1993. Now, i get scared from these new terms like LOL, especially when i'm driving in my new hybrid, my ipod on pause as i use voice recognition to send an e-mail from my bluetooth headset to my blackberry. I'm simply a caveman. The defense rests. -

Can you imagine if muckler traded mogilny? That would totally kill the team now and in the future... I don't care what draft picks or prospects we get. Nothing will replace mogilny. -

I have been to one comeback game, 3 AFC championships, 3 Stanley Cup finals games, mayday, dave hannan, i've met a former US President (bush), been to an F-1 grand prix, hell, gotten married, seen the stones, but nothing will top that night... I don't have a child yet so i can say that. Being there for that game was the top sports memory i've ever had. 10 years ago... that's a long time but the memory is as fresh as yesterday. HANDS DOWN the greatest and most moving sports moment in my life. (that comeback game is a close close second though)
