Pet Peeve -- NHL standings de-emphasize total losses
MakeSabresGrr8Again replied to golfball323's topic in The Aud Club
No... What used to happen when a game ended in a tie was they played an extra 5min OT in which the winner (if one team succeeded) received 2pts and the loser got zilch. Each team only got 1pt IF at the end of OT it still remained tied. This is a 2pt difference for the winner. What happens now is essentially the same up to that point but the loser is awarded 1pt and the difference between winner and loser is only 1pt. Bonus to loser by my guestimate. -
Was just joking.

But, but....we'll still only have one scoring line, lol. And nobody to pick up Sobotka.

Ouch, nice photos. I knew the difference but the pics help accentuate things a bit, thanks. -

But did you see when he was driving the net and I believe it was Kucherov who pushed him down to the ice and took the puck from him? Needs to get stronger for sure. -
Who'sville, PA, it's right off the turnpike next to Whatsamatta U.

Pet Peeve -- NHL standings de-emphasize total losses

Wait a minute....... Old system---OT win=2pts for a win and 0pts for a loss (2-0=2pt gap between winner and loser) New system----OT win still gets 2pts and 1pt for a loss (2-1=1pt gap between winner and loser) Where is this mysterious "bonus" pt for the winner??? If I remember correctly, the "loser" pt began being awarded because both teams played hard for 65min and they should both come out of it with something for their efforts. That to me seems like the only one that got rewarded was the loser not the winner. Simple math seems to prove that. The fact is that teams play harder during the regulation time (moreso the team that is behind on the scoresheet) to get it to OT thereby guaranteeing they get 1pt (as evidenced by pulling their goalie to tie it up). -

Not really arguing the OP point. It was just my read into what he was getting at and like I said I could be wrong. With that said....how did they award points prior to the current system? -

Good question -
It's quite possible that JBot "insisted" because Thomas, Kyrou, and others were not offered at all, so he "insisted" on getting what he could instead of some other throw-in piece.

I lived in Path Valley area off Rte 75 west of Chambersburg and very much Amish country. Buggies going by my house and used to haul them into town and all around the state. They were very appreciative and helped do work on my house. Sometimes wish I still lived there.

Both? Good for you!!

I get the sense that the OP's "pet-peeve" really stems back to the old arguments of.... Society getting soft and "rewarding" losers. Like not keeping score and everyone has to get a trophy or you"ll hurt someone's feelings. Just my opinion of where he might have been going with that post.....could be wrong though (wouldn't be a 1st, lol). -
Thanks and glad to hear your news. Wish you and your family the best and hope everything goes well.

Being only 5pts behind TBL is a good thing....this is a 4pt game. GO SABRES

I'm kinda on the fence with all this. I agree with parts of both posts....yours and schrader. On one hand....do you take the chance of upsetting the chemistry and locker-room you just fixed by making a trade, even if it does add some talent at a spot of need. That 2C is not likely to come from a play-off bound team and Casey has been getting better seemingly by the game. To pay a1st rd pick for a risk of losing what you developed is lets say...risky. If they still miss the playoffs the effects could go in many directions. On the other hand....if you do nothing and let the boys ride it out and determine their own fate, the outcome either way (playoffs/no playoffs) could go in different directions...good/ bad. With that said, I tend to lean more toward no-trade because I think the result would be more team building no matter which way it ends AND doesn't cost you a 1st rd pick whom might help you get there sooner than later. I've waited this long and am willing to let a dynasty build as it's going rather than a quick fix that may not last.

Hope the best for both You and your Dad. I know how frustrating it can be on family as well as the patient. My mom passed away last year and I went to Phoenix just in time for her last breath. During my short stay I got to go with my dad to some Dr appointments and decided it best to stay there longer and help him through the grief (ended up staying almost 4 months). In the mean time my dad got sick with Ecoli, him and I were on our way to a Dr visit and were rear-ended at a stop light totaling his car and sending him to hospital, and while at hospital they found a cancerous mass on kidney. Needless to say, we didn't get much accomplished as we had hoped to straighten things out around the house for him seeing how he hadn't been able to after taking care of my mom for the last 4yrs. But just being there for him was a big relief for him and I.

Will the Sabres outscore the Bills this week?
MakeSabresGrr8Again replied to Eleven's topic in The Aud Club
We night need to score that many to win games this week...TBL, Jets, & Wild. Just realized that BOTH Bills and Sabres can beat the Jets this week.....there is a GOD!!!!! -
Why....personally, I think O'Peilly said those things at locker clean-out because HE wanted out and to some extent forced the trade. He wasn't so happy in Colorado and got traded eventually. Seems like a pattern is evolving with him but we'll have to stand by and wait for more evidence. If an ROR led Blues team loses the CUP to a Jack led Sabres team, and ROR wants out of St. Louis....we'll know. GO SABRES (starts the We're Gonna Win That Cup song followed by Dahlin) LOL
-
Noooo, it's because for the 1st 9yrs of his contract he makes more money than his cap hit. Below market value? For the last 4yrs he's been making McDavid money and is now "falling" into Jack's range but cap hit is only 8.7M. I'm not saying Crosby doesn't deserve what he gets but not "below" market....only the cap hit is. Malkin is getting 9.5M for 8yrs and that's what his cap hit is.
-
I agree.....but it doesn't stop the visions. There has to be away. How does Pitt keep Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang for example. If anyone knows it might be JBot.
-
I can't help myself from thinking of a 2nd line of Nylander/ Mitts/ Nylander with Dahlin / Pilut on D feeding them. Or PP unit.
-
Could it be that Leafs are using this tactic to prove to Nylander and agent that he "might" not be worth as much as he thinks? Do they get lets say 15 offers...throw out the 2 highest and 2 lowest, average the rest and come up with a value of ~$6.5M? Then take that to him and say..."Look, league wide this shows your value at 6.5M we can't give you 8M without hurting the team". Of course; this could backfire too.

I think Florentino has a chance still to make the NHL, just not here. Doesn't fit our style.
