Are We Now Buyers At the Trade Deadline?
MakeSabresGrr8Again replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
Weave also claims 15-20% from his source and if my math is correct today, 4 of 16 is 25% so i guess our record of success is better than we think. -

2nd rd and later picks (or any pick) can have value and an impact on you club, they don't have to be an NHL top 6 to do it. What about the ones that are career AHL that are call ups for injuries? they're still valuable picks regardless. -

So count Guhle out. And Asplund, Davidsson, Samuelson, Laaksonen...forget them ever making the NHL. OOOOHHH wait, isn't everybody waiting for Olafsson to come up (7th rd). Didn't McNabb go outside the 1st rd (still playing in Vegas?). Bailey? C.J. Compher? Jake McCabe? Ukka Pekka Lukkonen? Foligno? Ullmark? Borgen? All useless picks with no value, and that's just a quick off the cuff list of non-1st rd'ers and just this team and recently, not historically. I can't forget Pommers. I'm sure there are more and don't say they are outliars cuz that's a good size list for starters. -

Some do but only for short term and seems that, like me, you want long term or are willing to play it out as is. -

So then he actually did both. You don't only stock the farm with 1st rd picks. Those 2nd and 3rds are just as valuable at re-stocking. The fact that he brought in basically junk for those picks is "not doing enough". -

Then you don't disagree....I said "keep the change headed in this direction". Similar too your "change is in motion" All is good either way? -

We need more than that to have success in the future. Instead of "never out of it" we need the attitude "we can win every time from start to finish". How long will come from behind victories last? When will we start to win games for 60 minutes? That's when when you CHANGE the culture. That said, it's a good way to start that change. We just need to keep the change headed in this direction and good things will come. -

The question isn't buy, sell, or stay put....it's at what cost? Chemistry? Break the drought? Development? Future cap space? Chance for a Cup? Skinner? Reinhart? Nylander? etc. Way too many variables at this point in time. We can only hope EVERYONE INVOLVED will make the best decisions. Whether that's JBot, Housley, Pegula, scouting, Skinner, and so on. We talk about how we've been beating top teams but have we seen their best days and goalies? Not enough to evaluate that yet. Will teams keep playing back-ups against us until deadline then start taking us more seriously? that could give us some false hope of a long run and we could end up like Oilers, Avs, and others who made playoffs 1yr and miss the next. We want to be vary careful not to react foolishly on false hope but yet also not hesitate in realizing what could bring future success for years to come. Just Skinner alone creates several scenarios that could either help us, hurt us, or destroy our future. Each and every decision has many ways it can affect the team and each one needs to be thought out clearly and not on a message board, lol. In JBot we need to trust he'll do just that. As far as the underlined part....are you familiar with our Bills? How well is breaking the "drought" working out? -

Prob because he knows eventually will get the result he wants. Wish Beaulieu was in line-up. -
When should Dahlin start carrying a heavier load?
MakeSabresGrr8Again replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
The best thing about him is that when he coughs up the puck , he is very capable of recovering without the need for a teammate to cover his mistake. -
Sorry, thought you were talking about Peterman LOL
-
Yes, but he's still in last place.
-
Poor guy....went from last place Sabres to now last place Kings.

Is it really that big a phrase? Casey is already developing nicely and may not be where some hoped at the moment, but by all accounts he is not a liability. I really don't see the need for anything drastic and like LGR4 said we have our pipeline. Also, pushing Casey to a 3rd line C could hurt more than help. Personally, I'd like to build our depth through the draft or see what's available in FA. It's great being able to have these discussions and actually not have a real pressing desire or need....winning does that kinda thing.

It is but you can't imagine how many people get fooled looking at it from the wrong way. Funny how that works with other things as well. -

Always was pretty good at math getting older though, lol. Can't say the same about typing though. Sometimes you have to look at things differently too see them correctly. How about you? I know how to give change without needing the calculator or my phone....something I noticed many youngsters can't do nowadays. -

This whole discussion about points reminds me of a math question from years ago. 3 gentlemen are out of town and stop at an inn to get a room in which to share. The innkeeper tells them it will be $30.00. They each pay $10, get the key, and go to their room. The innkeeper later feels that he overcharged the 3 gents and calls over the bellboy, gives him $5.00 and asks him to return it to the gents. Along the way the bellboy thinks that the 3 gents can't evenly split $5.00 so he keeps $2 and gives the guys $3 instead to split evenly. If the gents each paid $9 because they got $1 each back from the bellboy and the bellboy kept $2, then what happened to the other dollar? $9x3=$27 +$2 (bellboy kept)=$29.....where did the other $1 go? -

Here, I'll give you the answer to this poser that I've been waiting for you to find....... 84.1 Overtime – Regular-season - During regular-season games, if at the end of the three (3) regular twenty (20) minute periods, the score shall be tied, each team shall be awarded one point in the League standings. The teams will then play an additional overtime period of not more than five (5) minutes with the team scoring first declared the winner and being awarded an additional point. I totally don;t agree with this and that's why I've been yanking your chain on the subject. the reason being is what would the NHL do if for some reason after regulation that the game could not be completed (power outage, catastrophe, etc)? would they award the 1pt each and continue at another time? But as stated the winner gets the extra point therefore being the 'bonus' point as you call it. Also this only pertains to the 'new' system therefore my argument still stands because the losing team never got a point even at the end of regulation with the score tied in the old system. -

If your so called skills competition is such an important barometer than why is there an ROW column (regulation and OT wins) and no column for SCW (skills competition wins)? If a team wins in regulation they are awarded 2pts If a team wins in OT they are awarded 2pts. If a team wins in your skills competition they are awarded 2pts Mean while after regulation time the loser is awarded 1pt no matter the situation. Which one is getting rewarded with the "bonus" point? -

no....you are ignoring simple math. the difference between winning and losing used to be 2pts and now is only one pt. individual skills competition shouldn't determine the winner of a team sport....unless maybe (i did say maybe) everyone on the team takes a turn. I'm up in the air on that one.
