McD is only averaging about 25pts/yr more than Jack and has made jack of a difference in Edmonton despite at one point having Draisaitl, Eberle, RNH while we had Kane/ROR/ and Reinhart. He's had as much a supporting cast as we have for Eichel. And before you say anything .....you want to take away Eichel/Reinhart or Jack and Rasmus, then throw in 2-1sts as a sweetener for just McD? Do you really think McD would make that much difference when he hasn't done that in Edmonton? Sounds like it would be helping Oilers more than us IMO. Give me Draisaitl and we keep Jack and Rasmus somehow.

I think Botts needs to add two 20+goal scorers (1 a center). In '06-'07 we had a 40g guy and (3) 30+ guys and (2) 20+g scorers. With a mobile D we can hopefully score more than we give up and it would also help take pressure off the Eichel line.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned here yet is ....how does the salary cap play into all this? There is plenty of talented players out there in other leagues (see Pilut) that could fill a roster. But, with one or two players on a team making $10mm or more, when you get to the bottom half of the roster you are more or less reduce to signing lesser talent to "fit" the salary cap. Also, "roles" are established due to the talent on the team. I'm sure some people would love to see this team able to roll four quality scoring lines. With the Dmen and system trying to be established here, it could be an amazing thing to see. The other thing is that the "thought" process of "protecting" your bigger assets hasn't and won't likely go away as long as there is any grit and sandpaper.

To trade one or more of those picks right now is almost senseless. We need too much just to salvage the rest of this season to waste those picks. However, your assumption that those picks won't come into play until 2022-23 might be incorrect. I think JBot will pretty much hold tight this deadline and let these guys try and figure it out themselves. He might do a small deal or two to bring in someone to help a little bit if he thinks they need a push. Those 1st rd picks can still be used right up to draft day. That's where I think they will come into play.
