I would suggest that other teams also do this.....Yakapov, Puljujarvi come to mind.

You can rank them any way you want using whatever methods are available and you'll still never know at that time of the pick who the BPA really is. Don't tell that to the people on here who think we should've drafted Boeser instead of trading that pick for Lehner/ Legwand, LOL.

This is not true. What I'm talking about is when it's your time on the clock and you have list of players you ranked for that slot as being 2F, 1D, and 1G, then which do you choose? You have them all ranked equal at that pick, then you have to decide where your biggest need is. You also may have chosen a BPA in an earlier pick that filled one of those needs. And you still need to try and project out in future years where your needs will exist. Was Grigorenko the BPA? You never know who the real BPA is until they actually develop. If you never draft for need then you could end up drafting all forwards for years or all D.

Everyone here has great ideas and here is an interesting thought....let's just say that some teams draft for BPA and sometimes for specific needs. A team could pass on a player like Aho and take a D if that's what they need. Three years later people are complaining that they should've taken Aho and the D selection they made is a bust/JAG. There's no way to predict that.

The bolded could be argued that he's not had a very good roster to work with, especially depth wise. So I would say it's a bit early to determine if he"s gotten good results or not working with what he has. The injuries to Skinner and VO have compounded that. Yet they have won the last couple games. Not saying you're wrong, just that there could be those that might argue.

This is all good info and most are aware of these failures. I would also argue that there have been 2 rebuilds and the 2nd one is still up in the air. Another thing, weren't we using video scouting for some of that time? That might account for some issues. Also, how do we rank against all other teams during this time frame? Would be interesting to see if others have failed and which teams were very good at drafting. Good work though on your behalf.

Henrique would be good but where do we clear almost $6M for him? You're not gonna get him for Bogo or KO. Edit: He also has a 10 team list we would likely need him to waive.

During the good years you had to pretty much inherit season tickets and thousands were on the waiting list. It's a hockey hot bed, if only the team would realize just how good and deserving the fans are.

I think the only real fix for this team is for Pegula to find an interested group of investors willing to move this franchise to Quebec (or some obscure place far, far away) and start over as an expansion team.

Just like the Sabres......I've lost all hope that we'll ever see progress.

This kid isn't being brought up because he's a fighter only. He has a great work ethic and is a team player. He also has the bloodlines that some would like with his father being Derrick Smith and related to all the Primeau's. He may not be that talented but he tries harder than anyone on this soft team. Give him a chance. I'll be willing to bet that when he goes back down, some will be wishing he could stay.
