Sure it's opinion but Perry in his prime paired with Getzlaf won a cup. You telling me a guy like Perry in his prime paired with Jack wouldn't dominate? We could use as many Perrys as we can find. Cozens might be one.

Well you dug deeper into the stats then I did so I'm going to believe you but it seems like such an odd thing to me. I mean a PP starts in your end you win the draw you kill 20-30 seconds easily, you lose the draw the other team is set up right away so that has to be an advantage simply in the amount of time shorthanded if nothing else but leave that as is I guess. Dead last in the league in any category though imo is a big problem that needs fixing. I don't know about this either. We didn't take penalties because we're a soft team and that's not a good thing if you want to win in the second half of the year (not to mention playoffs if we ever get there). Being able to kill penalties so you can afford to take some is far more important imo. I also have trouble blaming the goaltending. the goalies don't play worse when we are shorthanded, the problem is we do not clear the front very well or control rebounds and with a man down we're really bad at it so often the screens are better and the goalies have to overplay pucks to worry about rebounds. PK is a team thing, it's not on the goalies, they're the same as the rest of the 60 minutes.

Biggest problem, our face off winning percentage dead last in the league.

if he'd been a Sabre over this last 10 years we'd have already been in the playoffs several times. Refs sucked in this game. Way too many meh calls. They ruin playoff hockey when they do this. imo

How often? Tough question, but the difference between a good team and a bad one is getting lucky and/or drafting better. We need to start hitting not only on #8 picks but later round picks. We need our Jamie Benn (129th pick) or Brayden point (79th) or our Brett Hull (117th) or Datsyuk (171st) etc etc etc. We cannot afford another Nylander.

So, not been watching Sabres hockey last few seasons? :) Dallas looked pretty good.

Signing the RFAs - the Key to this off-season

imo it's about double what he's worth. A 2-way contract would be more suitable. -
Sabres Acquire Center Eric Staal from Wild for Marcus Johansson

Well true, obviously, but he seems to know nothing about Buffalo so they obviously haven't had any long friend to friend chats. I'm just saying I don't think their friendship, at whatever level it's at, had anything to do with the trade. It may have influenced Adams interest though, no differently than when JBot got players he knew from the Pens. A new GM feeling more comfortable with what he knows better. That's all. -

See now THIS, on a Sabres board I do find offensive (even if in gest) . I think the Pegula's have been crap owners and they know nothing about hockey, but f*ck the leafs forever. Excuse me, we have doughnuts. -

Just speaking for myself, I find the notion that a 'fan" cannot hate certain aspects of his chosen team rather distasteful. It is the love of a team that leads to the anger, frustration and negative comments and after a decade I'm not about to fault anyone for hating any specific aspect of the organization or franchise. The notion that fans have to stand by and accept the kind of crap this organization feeds us is absurd. I'm a fan. If I wasn't, I wouldn't waste my time complaining about their ineptitude. Jack is apparently near the end of his tolerance level, why should we 'fans" not feel even worse? Should we all just "learn to deal with it" or should we demand more? You're free to make your choice, others should also be free to not agree and criticize freely if that's the road they want to take. Bottom line, if the team could actually win, all of these silly arguments of what fans can or should do would go away instantly. -

Give the guy a break, he has 3 kids (all under 10 I think) and I'm sure the family was settled into Minnesota and didn't dream of moving during a pandemic. Who would want that? -

I thought the implication was he wanted to come here because they were friends. Maybe I was misreading that but I think it was implied by some people (or hoped for). So in any event it's irrelevant. I'm just hoping Adams based the trade on what he saw from Staal this season, and not his memory of way back :) I still say it's a positive step, but not a huge one. Like or hate Mojo he was still one of our top 6 forwards so we lost one and gained one. Maybe a better fit for what we need, but still just a temporary fix. -

Honestly, why would any player be instantly happy about being traded to Buffalo? The only question is will he like it when he gets here. The one thing that does come across is that all that earlier talk about Adams and him being friends is meaningless. He clearly had no idea the trade was happening and it caught him off guard. -

There is no one on that list that I consider essential but I wouldn't want to let them walk for nothing either like that Montour rumour. -
Building a checking line around Bonino would be a good idea but it's also a short term move.

Or, following your own conclusion, he simply plans to resign Mojo and sees him as a better player next year and/or the year after etc. for another 5 or so years. Longer term thinking and planning. -
Lazar was our best face off guy if I remember correctly, but that was on a team dreadful at face offs. For all the talk about our great 4th line and Larsson you have to remember the PK on this team wasn't very good. Now there are a number of reasons for that, but I'm just saying the bottom six last year wasn't nearly as good as some people think. Lazar worked hard and tried his best, and I like that about him, but realistically, he should be in Rochester.
-
I think Kreuger will do the exact same thing he did this year. Try to balance his lines, look for combinations that have chemistry, and he'll reward better play with more ice time. he was pretty much traditional by the book in that regard and I doubt he changes. Just depends who he has on the roster. I don't think at this point ANY line or combination is a given.
-
Lazar is likely 4C but is not an improvement on Larsson. McCann idk.
-
Oh you're right. i saw 62 and assumed injury but he was traded to Nashville and then totally dried up there. So i guess you can say steady decline but I'm not sure what the point is? Are you saying players do not have sudden drop offs when they age, that they always decline slowly? I don't think that's true.
-
Not really, 24 is still in the 20s and he was injured the next year when he scored 17. The drop to 8 was a pretty sudden drop.
-
There is never a guarantee, but it would be more shocking if he didn't. He is no Mitts. I don't really agree with the sentiments of putting Cozens on RW though. I personally think he should be 4C until he is ready to take over from Staal as 2C (3rd line should be a checking PK line). I wouldn't be surprised if they tried a veteran line of Skinner-Staal-Okposo in training camp (if there is a training camp). It's all about how parts fit together after all isn't it?
-
I think, coincidentally, assuming good health and decent linemates, we should see numbers from him similar to a younger Eric Staal. So yes, 70 pts or thereabouts.
